I honestly can not believe the responses in this thread. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the message from the CEO. My wife and I both work at a ton when we are at home and/or watching our kids activities. If needed, we are both pretty much accessible at any hour of the day. I would expect any honorable employee to do the same. These responses are shocking.

Of course, I also see a ton of threads on the OT about people bitching about inflation, cost of living and asking how people "make it" in todays environment. Guess those things go hand in hand.

Why would you expect that? Are you stupid or something?

That sounds absolutely miserable.

How out of touch with reality and how narcissistic to believe that your employees actually care about the well being of your company? They just want the paycheck for hours worked. Want more hours? Pay more money. Even then, employees deserve a life away from work and will be happier to contribute to their profession if it’s not owning their entire existence.

The problem with this CEO statement is that it only “motivates” a small portion of top performers that are wanting to climb the ladder at the company.

The majority of a company are worker bees that want to clock in and out, doing the minimum required to get paid and have stability. Work is simply a mechanism to pay bills.

Now, the CEO could try to rotate his employment base towards the “go getter” crowd that will buy into the message but the problem is after a few years you get a bunch of frustrated folks working their tails off without upward mobility they expect (because everyone can’t get promotions).

So…he’s talking to above 10-20% of his population and the other 80% are eye rolling or worse.

People either have ambition or they don't, if they have it they will bust their arse without being asked, if they don't, hire better people.

Don’t work for high achieving Indians. They are not culturally compatible and are incapable of understanding real humans.

You can’t have an entire workforce of people with “ambition” unless that ambition relates to staying in current role and being an executor. Typically, ambition relates to upwards mobility and higher compensation…there’s not enough spots for it. Or, you end up looking like consulting or investment banks that have a wide base at the pyramid and cycle through 20% of their population annually. That’s fine for professional services and actually helps sell future work as your old employees move into industry. However, it’s a failure for a company that needs consistency in a workforce that has history and knows how to get things done in their specific operating model.

If companies brought back pensions they could get away with alot more. I have started to laugh in older peoples faces when they talk about job loyalty. Want loyalty? Bring back pensions

So what you’re saying is your work is more important than your family? I feel sorry for your kids.

I bust my tail and take pride in my work, and when i have work that takes longer than working hours, I either get up early or work late, before/after my commitment to or time with my kids.

You’re not a martyr, you are just letting your employer take advantage of you.

My primary responsibility is to my family. Sounds like yours is to your employer.

did you pledge your sword to your employer or what?

Eta- I say this as someone who is basically married to any project I am on. You can’t expect this from cubicle workers with 2-3 weeks of pto making 70k.

Equity partners always preach this. Like yeah, I'll work 60 hours or so if I'm well compensated, but sorry my time off is my time off unless you want to throw some equity at me.

Wait, where is the *sarcasm*?

What an awful existence. Your company doesn't value you and you can be walked out the door at any second, however many all-nighters you pulled. If you are serious, and I hope you are not, you are sacrificing life for a company who doesn't even know your name.
