re: Who's the a-hole that invented "Wish List"

Pretty sure Santa Clause invented the original "wish list". Just didn't have prices attached.
Tell me when you were young you didn't make a list of everything you wanted. You just didn't know how much it cost and as a kid, you really don't care.
Also, the parents are on the hook for the big money items. Relax, Scrooge.

Blame it on the parents. My kids "wish list" only went as far as their mother and me. I would never presume to let my kids send out wish lists to other relatives or friends.

I just give all mine a firm handshake and they are usually pretty happy.

I only get gifts for my god child. Not giving every niece and nephew and cousin shite

I spent my time in a totally different section of the Sears Catalog

Was thinking about the concept of a wish list the other day, which we all did as kids.
Utterly ridiculous and probably invented by Madison Avenue.
You are teaching your kids:
1. That you will get what you want by asking for it rather than working
2. Nothing about giving, which is the main idea of Christmas
This sucks. Christmas should be about giving, not getting.

I get a fricking email every ten minutes to let me know what my sister & sister-in-laws just put in one of their kid’s “wish list” thanks to my wife. Lol

I absolutely love my Amazon wishlist I send to my mother-in-law, sister-in-law etc. They insist on doing Christmas presents for everyone(my family only does gifts for the kids in the family + significant others).
Before I started doing a wishlist, I'd get $100-$150 worth of crap from my mother in law like no name Chinese junk or QVC specials. I tried telling her no gifts are necessary. Most of the junk she gifts we'd donate to Goodwill in january.
She insists Christmas is more fun if each adult has gifts to open. So I suggested a $150 gift card to Home Depot, Total Wine etc would be better appreciated. I got the whole gift cards aren't fun, so I made a wishlist of things I actuality want. She gets to buy them and I don't end up with junk I throw away a month later

That's more of a parental problem than an app/website problem.
I like apps like Elfster and the like, because it makes it easier to shop for people, especially if it's not super close friends/family (mind you, I'm only buying for adults).

because that service gets kid's hopes up only to be destroyed when parents and family can't afford any of the shite on their absurd Wish List - That's why a-hole.
they sure as hell weren't asking for $500 shoes before this stupid Wish List service
Sure they did. You just didn’t know about it. Many kids put those items on there and people give them gift cards to the place they can buy the item. Very few expect 1 person (non-parent) to actually purchase the item. They hope enough people give them gift cards so that they can compile the cards to purchase the item.
If you don’t want to do that then don’t. No one is forcing you. But Kohls bucks as a gift to anyone is probably the most tacky thing I’ve ever heard of. Christmas is about the joy of giving something they really want or would enjoy.

That’s not a wish list issue, that’s a shitty parenting issue

That’s insane! I never wished for something that expensive growing up. It sounds like your nieces and nephews need to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees.

We stopped buying for my nieces and nephews years ago, if Family's want to buy for everyone fine but I have my own family to take care of

Hey gotta do what I can do considering the people running this country has destroyed the economy I currently live in.
My kohl’s cash is a lot better than what a homeless person on the street shooting up heroin would give them.

That reminded me: when I was a little kid I would pretend I won a contest and I got to pick one toy from each page of the Sears toy catalog. The next hour was pure bliss.
