Stellar thread topic, toots (I kid, Attorney Wednesday). And thank you for your honesty and willingness to share, knowing beforehand that there would be at least some level of disagreement, as per the point of the thread to begin with. But to see that upvote to downvote ratio piling on the down side - I surmise that the majority of those downvotes are from individuals lacking those same qualities of yours relevant to the matter, as described herein above.

An internal war is closer than anyone wants to openly admit

Too many similarities to past events taking place especially the fact that our own government has labeled half the country as their enemy and openly going after them

how do you think the state’s interests are different from its population’s interests? You’re saying the government needs its own representation but wouldn’t the state’s interests just be the politicians’ interests?

I think Donald Trump is a buffoon.

Trump v. Biden if they both win nominations will be a sad display of best and brightest.

The 17th amendment screwed it up so that now even the Senate seats are popularity contests.

That one is kind of a wash. One is a popularity contest decided by the voters. The other is a popularity contest decided by the winners of previous popularity contests.

Unpopular Opinion.
Even if he’s elected (and I will vote for him), I don’t believe Trump will be able to accomplish anything remotely close to his first term in office.

I believe he’s made too many political enemies to successfully build a coalition. And in my opinion, much of his problems have come from his inability to hire competent, loyal advisers, and two, his habit of consistently picking fights with those who disagree with him.

Term limits just further enable career staff to run government (either partisan or not).

Should be illegal to have party affiliation for federal elections. Do away with the 2 party system.

My unpopular political opinion is that all nations are under the obligation by God to acknowledge Jesus Christ as king and submit to Him, and any politician that does not make a credible profession of the Christian faith and live a life consistent with that profession should not be voted for.

We should hold a Constitutional Convention and hopefully pass and ratify a new Constitution.

As unpopular as my opinion is, this is a position held by Mike Johnson, so I'm not saying this because I'm some kind of stupid liberal.

We have the oldest standing Constitution in the World. That is not something to be proud of. Thomas Jefferson believed we should draft a new Constitution every 19 years, because people should be governed by themselves and not their ancestors.

People are afraid of a new Constitution, because they don't know what we would get. But any Constitution would have to be ratified by the States. While I have some radical changes I would like to see, I expect there would be little change to our governmental structure. But it would be nice to clarify certain issues so we could stop worrying about what our Founding Father's were thinking 240 years ago.

My next most unpopular opinion is that we should drastically increase the number of Congressmen in the House.

Congress used to vote to increase the size of Congress after every census. But over 100 years ago we went to 435 and decided to stay there. The less populous States feared they were losing their voice in Congress. They were, but that's why we have a Senate.

The House is supposed to be the voice of the people. But right now congressmen represent over 750,000 people. That doesn't give you a very loud voice. In fact, our individual representation in Congress is more dilute than almost any other representative government in the world.

I think Congressmen should represent no more than 250,000 people. Really I think it should be closer to 100,000, but that is too big of a change.

So, let's go to 1300 Representatives. It would solve so many problems we currently have, and give each of us a louder voice in government.

Mass deportations of all illegals with border security to prevent their return. This is popular with MAGA Patriots but unpopular with libtards and progstains.

Unpopular Opinion

Any vote in this UniParty® charade is is a vote for the left or right wing of the Deep State. If Liberty is to continue in this once great nation, it will arise in the form of subsidiary, nullification and even secession movements in the individual states. Such movements will necessarily be populist in nature.

Why?

The unelected have no business running the government, and yet they do.

And the attitude of these unelected assholes - that the great unwashed are too stupid to know how things “get done.”

No. We’re not stupid. We see you. We see how you’re “getting things done.” And it’s the exact opposite way that things should be done.

Again the only people who should be “term limited” are members of the executive branch, and anyone else who is unelected. Down to Congressional staffers and judicial law clerks. Our government is currently run by faceless administrators who are accountable only to the gargantuan corporate oligarchy that they will join once they demonstrate their usefulness.

ETA - right now I have a lawsuit against Wells Fargo. These mammoth banks all have arbitration clauses in their “agreements” with their customers that subject them to arbitration when they frick over their customers. Wells Fargo sucks the most, but all of them have it.

Then, the customer who has gotten fricked over by its “bank” gets doubly fricked by a bunch of unelected/unaccountable “arbitrators” in a process that is entirely regulated by Big Banks. (Arbitrators selected by Big Banks. Procedures written by Big Banks. No accountability to either. No appeal. No exposure). The Federal Arbitration Act is a curse and Arbitrations should only be permissible in arms length transactions.

These monstrosities are currently legislator, police, judge, jury and executioner of an entire chunk of our rights.

They do it precisely bc they can, and you’ll see more of this kind of crap with term limited legislators. They’ll move on from fricking over people with no representation in the administrative rule making, to straight up dictating legislation passed by “elected” ESG approved representatives.

Term limits are a terrible idea for elected officials. You’ll have a bunch of Joe Bidens who are the sock puppets of God only knows who. We see how that’s going now . . .

Congress staffers should be internships only.

Term limits are the exact opposite way of making government accountable.
