Prey distress has been the ticket lately. They’re still somewhat coming to pup fights but last 2ish months they’ve turned to the prey distress more.

Overcast, cool, breezy
No deer.
Haven’t heard the first shot.

Sounds like I'll be blasting Bambi while everyone else is watching football

Good luck everyone!

Got a nice little doe this morning, just over 120 lbs. She’s on ice. Hoping for the 12 point we have on camera to drop by this afternoon!

Trying to get this guy to "daylight".
I've been laying off his core area until he gets fired up

Deer are on their feet here. I’ve seen 6 and my nephew has seen 13 so far. Small bucks are definitely chasing. Hopefully one of the big boys I have on camera will make an appearance.

That is a gigantic whitetail. I don't care if you're in Louisiana or Iowa. That's a big one.

Tripod on the corner of two roads
Tikka 270
Warm and humid AF

Missed a big buck TWICE crossing the road around 7AM. Severe hangover definitely a factor.

ETA: open to suggestions on additional excuses, will need to be well prepared when I return back to the camp

Do yall remember what Opening Morning used to sound like in the 80s and 90s? Especially when they opened the Doe season and dropped the "doe tags" nonsense?

It was a war.

Nowadays I think that for whatever combination of reasons, Opening Day isn't that big of a deal. Lots of people save their powder for the rut I guess??

Harrison County, TX. Shooting lane in Piney Woods. 6.5 Cripplemore for the haters. Mostly on doe patrol but if my target buck walks out, I’m not saying I won’t!!!

Do you have alcohol available between you and the camp?

Also, you can crank the knobs on your scope, go shoot it in the yard, and show everyone that you did indeed knock it way off zero when it fell on the ground this morning
