$0 now, but with kids on the horizon I'm bracing for what the cost is going to be

$2800 for a full time 3 year old and a after school care/holidays for a 6 and 9 year old

$28,800 a year? Was this some tricked out day care? Do they still have one or two wives in neighborhoods who watches kids. You pay them $200 in cash, they have around 4 or 5 kids. Every week a different parent brings snacks for the week, for lunch they have hotdogs, something chef Boyardee.
Man we need to go back to the good ole days.

Out of curiosity, who else would you be getting day care for?

Damn. It was about $500-600/mo when we last had one in daycare.

The insurances required on these places is pretty staggering too, fwiw

The part we aren't saving is going to the ever increasing costs of sports/activities that come with them getting older.
That’s a fun cost though, I’ll shell out those payments all day long

I feel sorry for people who bring there kids to these “ home” daycares. Man you don’t know what’s going on there

$1277/month for 2 kids, age 3 and 6 months, in Lafayette.

I remember when I was annoyed with Daycare expense if $2,500/mo for 2, partially subsidized by my wife’s employer, and I couldn’t wait to get that cash flow back. That money soon became $3k for a nanny. Then that became $3k for private school and their after school program.
Add it all up, summer camps, daycares, nanny, schools — it is $750k to $1M for 2 kids just to get them to college.

Not my kid (or grandkid) but a friend’s 2 year-old is $2,000 per month at a place that claims 1:4 ratio in Northern Virginia.
8:00 am to 5:00 pm, every federal, state, local holiday off.
I’d consider moving or having* a nanny in-house.
*Especially the vetting process.

It's a great school and both of my kids thrived in it.
They stayed home till they were 3 and then we put them in school.
I don't know if its true for all kids, but both of my kids learn better with other kids.

$2825 per month for 2 in Austin suburbs
ETA: We're not sure if we'll do private or public school long term but they have to go to public at least for a few years. I need to add that $34k a year back to my budget
And my daughter has a "late birthday" and misses the cutoff to enter kindergarten by literally 14 days. So we have to pay another year of childcare for her

$600/week. It is absolutely insane.

It was $800 in Louisiana, which I thought was bad. Now it’s double that in Georgia.
