OT Watch Thread: Tudor Black Bay 58 Bronze: New or Used?

Headed to Orlando Tues/Wed for work and called the Tudor Store there. It’s in stock and retails for $4,875. Looks like some used versions are anywhere from $225 to over 50% off used.
Would the OT Watch gurus recommend buying used or full price retail? This will be the first big boy watch purchase and I’m just curious as to y’all’s thoughts on the retail versus appreciation over time, etc.
Suggestions on a purchase approach welcomed.

For the life of me, I don’t get watch culture

Always buy from an AD to get the piece of mind. I know it’s not necessarily a piece they rep but a used could be parted out etc, the premium buying new, imo, is worth it.
Also, it’s $5k. Does that hurt? If so go used to scratch the itch if needed, but again I prefer the AD experience and having the box/papers knowing it’s not been parted out or possibly fake.

So I could buy it for $5k or $225?

I don’t understand it either, but I know what an ugly watch is and…

I’ve purchased used before, but definitely buy from a reputable source if that’s what you’re going to do.
I’m curious as to why you’re choosing a bronze watch as your first “big boy” watch. Something like a Black Bay 54, BB58 (in stainless), or even a Pelagos 39 would be much more versatile. But, obviously style is unique to the person.

Are you a heavy set Italian guy with slicked back hair?
If not, then you are gonna look like a douche bag wearing a gold and black watch

I don’t understand why anyone would pay $90k for a pick-up truck or a Tahoe. Or buying side-by-sides to ride around subdivisions.
Let people spend their damn money how they choose

I agree. I know a dude who dropped $90K to buy a 125 year old Tortoise. To each their own.

Pretty smart. Tortoise has been appreciating like crazy.

I have two different Tudor watches
The bronze model and black bay. I think what ever you can get at a better value for your money.

It's your money and you buy whatever you want.
I wouldn't buy a bronze watch. I wouldn't buy a chocolate dial. That's just me.
Black Bay are grail tier for a lot of people who are into watches.

Buy new. That way as the bronze ages, the patina is all you.
ETA…. Don’t buy a Tudor with the idea of it appreciating.

$225 wouldn't come close to being worth it to me to buy used. Unless I can get at least 25% off on a "like new" condition watch, I would rather just pay retail. Not worth the headache.

I personal like to buy new, but I (to this point at least) buy for keeps and don’t really flip or trade.
If buying for life, I like the idea of it “being mine”, whether stupid or not. All the scratches and wear being my memories and not someone else’s.
The first one is also special — so I’d personally suggest new. You can probably negotiate that watch. Check brand new in box comps online to get a sense of the potential discount you can angle for. To do that though, you will need to be at an AD, boutiques typically won’t negotiate as much, if any.

I have the black stainless BB58 and I love it. Idk how I'd like the bronze because of how the patina develops. Like the guy above said, if you go used you'll have to deal with the fact that it's already started to patina on someone else's wrist. If you don't care about that, go used and save a bunch of money. They're a good bit cheaper on the gray market from what I remember

The Bronze is next up on my To Buy list. But I am 25 watches deep at this point. I can't see that as a first purchase. But to each their own. I certainly don't listen to anyone on my purchases. I just see what I like and buy it.
I made the decision early on to always buy new. It's a personal thing I guess but, like someone else said, I enjoy knowing every scratch and burr is mine. Plus, these days the fakes are so good I can't stand the thought of paying the money and then finding out later it's fake when I go to get it serviced. I certainly wouldn't buy use to save $225.
