well....federal largesse benefits primarily whites without college education, a core Trump constituency, and from what I can tell from reading the grammar and syntax on this board, a majority of the people who post here. When the government shuts down, it will be these poor, uneducated MAGA die-hards who suffer the most.

It has been shutdown many times. What happens is that non-essential people are furloughed. No one else is furloughed. They still get paid but maybe late.
The federal government is a big sponge that delivers little for a very high price, but hey, the civil servants see themselves are our masters!

I know it's a pipe dream, but I would hope that the lights and a/c are turned off during the shutdown. Also, government vehicles aren't being driven, so saves money on auto expense/repairs/maintenance. Government employees not driving to work will help save the planet and delay the effects of climate change.
Better hope that the FDA has already approved all of the labeling for our fall pumpkin spice favorites. Would hate to miss out on those.

Lights, maybe.
A/C, no. Alot of the offices I've been in you can't even adjust the A/C.

Most government employees won't bring a vehicle in until there's a light on or an obvious issue. The only thing this potentially saves is fuel, and it's not even really saving that. The work that required that person to get behind the wheel is still going to be there when the shutdown is over.

A good portion of them are still working from home, so this isn't really a benefit.
There is literally zero benefit to the public in a shutdown. It just costs people money for nothing.
I'll be honest, a 2 week shutdown doesn't hurt me at all, and actually gives me alittle hunting vacation. But I'd rather be at work not falling behind on the things that need to be done.

The investigations into Trump are not fact driven, they are politically driven. This is a fact and this fact should scare the shite out of you.

I live for gridlock and government shutdowns.

Shut it down long enough for Ukraine to run out of money then the war ends.

I would enjoy a shutdown more if we didn’t backpay the “workers”

This is part of the problem...
Used to be that being a civil servant meant sacrificing pay for job security and benefits. Now, government employees make more than private sector employees and still have job security and benefits.
That is a problem.

Sorry but your post infuriates me.
The fact that you make more money working for the US gov’t is absolutely ridiculous.
NEWSFLASH: The US GOVT (or any govt for that matter) should not be any sort of major employer.
It should NOT be enticing nor one be better off working for Gov’t.
Bloated pig that needs to be put down to the slaughter.

If the government was shut down for a year, it would still run a deficit
Think about that?

Why the 1 downvote for me? I stated facts when government shuts down they get paid for shut down time at later date.

Hardly. Except for some positions, it’s an organization to employ the unemployable. That’s a definite with state gov. Rocks would be more efficient and intelligent.

No more money to Ukraine.... no more money to DHS to
pay illegals $2,000 upon entry and their continued support...

Ignorance, thy name is Covingtontiger.
You don't even know what I do, or why my position pays more than it does in the private sector. There are positions similar to mine all over the public and private sector, but due to the specific expertise and skills required in my role, I make more than my counterparts. That's not to say that there aren't opportunities in the private sector to make the same or more money (I've had recruiters and consultants I've worked with approach me about such positions), but they aren't very common, just as they aren't in my agency.
While I tend to agree that there are many jobs in the government that aren't necessary, there are indeed jobs that are necessary. Hell, there are entire programs and agencies that aren't necessary, but I don't have control over that.
So kindly frick off with your condescending bullshite.

Nah its just an opinion.
Fact is you only believe in Law and Order when it's not your guy that's the criminal.
Just like how you love cops but were happy they got the shite beat out of them on Jan. 6th.
