I was forced to due to “advanced maternal age” and the first test came back positive, then the more conclusive one showed negative.

Needless to say, it caused two weeks of horrible stress for me and I was so mad that I was told to do it in the first place. Wish I had not because it caused unnecessary stress. And should it have been positive, what was I going to do about it? Nothing.

Just gave birth to a healthy and beautiful little girl Wednesday.

We opted for the genetic testing early on but mostly because my wife was impatient and wanted to know the gender and not have to wait a few more weeks for the ultrasound.

We didn't do it. We had decided it wouldn't make a difference in whether we would have the child, and didn't want to add to the stress.

Peop;le with Down Syndrome are very loving. Too bad most people can’t see love the way they do.

They can cause a ruckus but they are so innocent, you can’t help but share their joy and innocence. Absolutely beautiful loving humans.

They can probably run a fetal dna on maternal serum.

A company called Natera has a Panorama test.

Yep. Did the genetic testing. Had the conversation that if it showed up on the results we wouldn’t continue the pregnancy. I respect the people who do raise children with DS but I’m not one that could or would.

No, but I don't recall ever offering. I still would have turned it down. I didn't do genetic testing on my eggs either as none of that runs in the family.

Congratulations!

I declined testing with both my pregnancies. It wouldn’t have made a difference so we didn’t bother. Definitely a personal choice; no judgement either way.

No.

Back in the 1980’s I guess this wasn’t offered.

I raised a handicap child and never regretted it.

Me personally? No, you get what you get.

That doesn't mean I think it's wrong for anyone else to test or even terminate a pregnancy over the results.

It's too personal a decision to tell someone else what they should do.

Yes. We did the 10 week genetic test for what will be our first born just a couple months ago. Even if it comes back all on the up and up, be prepared for Dr’s to still try to scare the absolute shite out of you with the most horrific scenarios you can imagine around the 20w mark. We passed all of the second round of tests again, fwiw. Also, make sure you get an early sonogram for the purpose of mailing down the conception/due date. We were told insurance didn’t cover it, but it didn’t really matter. Now it’s causing all kinds of headache, I would have gladly paid out of pocket if I had any idea it would be like this.

And congrats!!

Dr asked us if we would terminate the pregnancy if the test had bad results. We said no he said there was no point in getting the test done. We were in our 30’s as well.

This was our position exactly. My oldest son has cerebral palsy. I’m hanging out with him now. Wouldn’t change a thing.

I wouldn’t screen, I didn’t do this for my two. Wtf you are blessed with what you are given.
I have a special needs child….i wouldn’t change a thing if I could do it over again.
