I did. We had been in our home maybe a year. First home. Just married. Just about no money. The AC in the house was just ancient. The only way we could afford it was to finance it. Luckily, the deal was 0% for 60 months.

Do those things actually work and last up to a year?

I have my doubts on a residential side and think this could be causing some issues by being restrictive on airflow.

They told me to change mine quarterly. They were $60 a piece and I have 3 of them. I changed them every 6 months. I had one in for 10 months and when I asked about the pressure drop when they did their maintenance they said it was still looking good. So now I change them yearly. I do vacuum them about once a month. But when I say vacuum I mean when I’m regularly vacuuming dog hair up with a chord less Dyson and I just run it over the grating.

I know some AC companies are pushing it. FIL offered a “deal” to finance a $14,000 replacement. Sent my guy to him and it was a $9,000 bill. So you’re getting a 50% up charge to finance.

That’s how they buy down the interest. Cost of capital is cost of capital. Ain’t no one sucking that up just to ge the business, they’re passing it along. Sometimes it just in the price or called a dealer fee or something but it’s coming through.

My price was the same whether I paid cash or financed.

Now I went through Wells Fargo so maybe they had some sort of deal worked out with Surgies

I did.

Sent a check for 20k to pay off my student loans and two days later. My AC shite out.

Took the 36 mo 0% interest and paid it off in 24 mo.

if I had a nickel for everytime I've had to say this, I could pay cash for a new HVAC system

Mine does. It's huge. But all my air intakes are above chest height so it's mostly just dust and not hair/etc. I've looked at every one that has come out and they don't look bad at all. Nothing like the little 24x24x1 filter I used to use. It always looked like I kept it under the bed or under the fridge. I had my doubts as well, but once you see how many sqft they are, it makes sense.

A dealer can offer 12 months @ 0% and they will have very little finance fees from the creditor, similar to what a credit card fee would be. When you start getting to 36 months and more at 0%, the dealer will have up to 20% + in fees from the creditor.

If it is the same price in cash or 0% financing, you'd be an idiot not to finance. Use inflation to your benefit

I financed my roof for 3 years. Got tired of watching $500 get taken out of my account every month, so I just paid it off after a year.

Probably looking at replacing Hvac next summer. . I have enough saved to come out of pocket, but if I can finance it for a low enough monthly payment I may go that route

Got my AC fixed by a great local guy.

Screw Dream Team. More like Nightmare Team.

They hooked me into some maintenance contract where they are supposed to clean it and didn't clean it, then came and said a board was out and they couldn't do anything until Monday.

Called Scotty's and they had it running and cooling in the morning. Dream team is doodoo

There’s a pretty funny twitter page (can’t remember the name of it) but the guy purposely finances as much stupid shite as he can. He’ll pay-over-time a latte from Starbucks that comes out to like 6 monthly payments of 83 cents

Not necessarily. These 0% ones they are giving out are more expensive. I just got a new system and paid in cash up front because the “0%” was going to be an extra 3-4K total cost. So ….

12k cash up front or 0% at 15k. Stupid.

We just did it... a total was $12.5k cash or 0% paid over 6 months... it was easier to pay 6.5 up front and 1K/month. the 'note' was carried by our A/C guy, not some finance company.

Nothing is free. The AC company is raising their price to pay for the financing fee. Mine quoted 15K financed, 12K cash.

Jesus. That's how much they're running now?
