Parting ways with dog after a great life.

12 and a half years together with some real dramatic slowdown in the last few months. Got sick earlier this week and vets did what they could for him, but late last night informed me the options were several days of intense hospitalization with a very low chance of success and then continued problems if he made it or to let him go on peacefully. I chose the peaceful route.
Really feeling it this morning. He had an amazing life and I'm glad I got to see him out.

So vet sorry for your loss
“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz

So sorry for your loss. We had to put down the greatest boy in our family on Friday also.

Never easy, but upside is knowing they had a good human who gave them a loving home.
May not sound like much, but sometimes it's enough.

Good dogs never live long enough.
I lost a dog I'd had for 13 years last June. Still miss him. Getting another dog right away helped a lot.

I feel for you. Mine is 10 and a half years now so I know it's coming. What a God awful day that's going to be

Had to put my german shepherd down a couple weeks ago. Was only 8 years old
Third german shepherd i’ve had to put down and it doesn’t get any easier. I find solace in knowing I gave him the best life possible. Getting a new dog/cat also helps. Keep your mind occupied

Need more pictures of the very good boys and girls.

It is never easy to let them go. We had three of our elderly adopted dogs die in the past year.
Prayers for you during this tough time.
May your dear companion rest in eternal peace.

I chose the peaceful route.
You made the right decision.
I went through the same thing 18 months ago. She was there with me through a whole lot for 11 years of my life. At least I got to hold her when she passed.

I can't remember if I saw this quote on TD or somewhere else, but it really helped me feel better about losing my best friend, my dog.
“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” - Suzanne Clothier

You did yhe right thing. They don't need to suffer.
I've said it often, pets are like family only without the drama and BS. Better than family!

I am sorry for your loss.
Dogs are amazing, empathic creatures and are a true gift from God.

Same with my cat three weeks ago, it still hurts. It’s the part of pet ownership I hate. I get very attached to those suckers.
