I have replaced the evaporator coil in each of my units over the last three months. These were only five year old Daikin units.

That’s stinks
I’m worried mine is going to crap out any day now. It’s a little undersized and getting older. Never seems to stop running until around 11:00 at night

So if it thaws but is low on Freon will it not freeze up again? I don’t want to burn the thing up.

Go to Walmart and buy a window unit. Use said unit to cool one room while u wait for the coils to defrost.

Honestly everyone should go buy a $200 window unit just to have on standby during the summer time.

Just don't do this

Before I got a new unit, I sometimes would turn off power and hose down the outside coils. It seemed to help the AC run cooler for about 30 minutes.

My old unit would just freeze up like that especially on very humid days. I'd carefully chip off the large pieces and defrost the rest with the hair dryer, and it wouldn't freeze up again for months. Either way, it's worth 20 minutes with a blow dryer if it starts working again.

Having to change it and air handler. $$

About to replace two air handlers. Replaced the third one 4 years ago and that ran about $3500. No telling what it cost now after the Covid shut down.

Yeah as others have said, save yourself some money and thaw it out and check the drain before you call for a weekend service.

There are currently NO evaporator coils like I need in the entire dam country. All total was right at 7K for everything.

Run just fan and let it defrost.

You likely just need a little freon added to system. Deal with fixing the leak in winter not now.

Freon leak. Refilling it is a band aid. Outside of warranty, replace the unit. Try to focus on the happy things in life.
