re: Have you ever first-named your mom or dad?

Names are for tombstones.

I do it. Partly as a laugh and partly because it feels weird at my age to call someone "Mom/Mother."

Dad goes by Randy with his grandchildren (my children/nieces) just like his mother wanted us to call her Susie. They didn’t want to be Grandma or Paw Paw. Mom is Nana. I go back and forth between Dad and Randy, depending on who/what I’m talking to or about. I call my MIL by her first name or Elah, which is what the kids call her. It’s not disrespectful, as we’re all adults now. I never would have used their first names growing up, though, unless I need to get their attention with several ‘Mom’ or ‘Dad’ around.

All the time, just to mess with my mom. Her name is Karen. I feel obligated.

“Ok Karen, calm down”

Nope.

I am 36 and never even considered calling my parents by their first names. The only older relatives I call by their first name are Aunt ____ and Uncle _____. Always with the pronoun before.

Growing up in a crowded area surrounded by tons of “moms” and “dads” i have called out my parents full names to get their attention.

I’m a crowded area, sure, many times.
