Disney w/ Kids (Prayers) Recommendations

Well, the day has come where the wife convinced me to take our 4 year old to Disney (I know she's probably to young and we should wait) . We've both been quite a few times, but its a first with our kids. We're staying at Pop Century and our plan is to have 7 days in the parks -- 3 at MK (really 2 1/2 days because we'll be getting there around lunch on the day we fly in), 2 at Hollywood Studios, and 1 each at EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. We'll also spend 1 day at Typhoon Lagoon.
The date to make food reservations is coming up and we're looking for recommendations. We're trying to balance that line between character dining for our daughter but that also has decent food.
The non-negotiable food places for us are: Liberty Tree Tavern, Be Our Guest, Crystal Place, and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. So that would leave us with needing reservations for 2 days at Hollywood Studios, 1 day at Animal Kingdom, and 1 day outside of the parks. We'd probably prefer character dining, but it's definitely not a must-have, in particular if the food is really good (we love Italian). One thing we've seen is taking the boat from HS to the Boardwalk and finding something there.
Outside of food reservations, do y'all have any recommendations on off the beaten path things worth doing -- things like sending mail from Main Street, or a particular dessert that we shouldn't miss, or this Kidcot Passport in EPCOT. My mother-in-law is paying for our daughter to do the Bippity-Boppity Boutique experience.
We've looked at the dates to hit MK on fireworks days, plan to stay at HS for fantasmic!, is EPCOT Nights worth it? Is the petting zoo in Animal Kingdom worth going too? Should we purchase a magic band?
TLDR: Taking young daughter to Disney for first time, looking for food ideas for Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and outside the park. Also looking for off the beaten park ideas and must-do's or just any general recommendations on taking a kid to Disney. Going in late October, our daughter loves princesses (shocker).

I don’t have anything to suggest, but wanted to say good choice in the time of the year you picked

This might not affect you since you have a 4 year old and may already be in the room by then, but if you haven’t bought your park tickets yet then you should look and see when the Mickey not so scary Halloween party is. If you are in MK on one of the party days then they kick you out early unless you have a ticket.
The actual Halloween party is nice, but it’s gotten pretty expensive ($150+). The ticket lets you in at 4 and the park is open until like 11 or 12. They have trick or treating, a different fireworks show, a different parade, and different characters are out. The park is also much less crowded and you can ride pretty much everything with minimal wait (especially later).

Took a 4 and a 2.5 year old last year
That is far too much to do and you’ll be hating yourself by day 4/5
I did 5 days and wished would have taken it easier with a non park day
Do yourself a favor a heavily tone down the restaurants/reservations- it will be a burden each day

Character meals are a gigantic waste of time. Even with small kids I think one is enough, two is plenty. With CP and Akershus I think that's enough.
In Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios we prefer quick service. Animal Kingdom, definitely Satu'li Canteen or Yak & Yeti and at Hollywood we like Docking Bay 7. If we did chose table service options our preferences are Tiffins at AK and Sci Fi Drive in at HS.
No...just use your cell phone

- Put in a break day somewhere. You need a day or two to at least relax and rest. Go visit other resorts or monorail crawl those resorts and snack around them. Go to the ranch they have at Fort wilderness and trail ride a horse. Sit by pool, something other than all park. You’re gonna and your kid is gonna burn out.
- Get a preferred room if you can. Some of the buildings feel like miles away. Nice to come back to your resort and walk a little from your room. Your feet will thank u.
- Jump on skyliner at night and visit Riviera resort. Quick service Primo Piato is pretty good and the grounds are beautiful. There is a large fountain with either or painted stone or glass mural or two princesses that wraps over your head with the lights and fountains at night.
- Go to Disney springs and eat. Plenty of places and most are better than anything in the parks.
- don’t push your kid to ride something that scares them to much. They won’t ride anything after and it turns into a hassle.
- take breaks back at the hotel. Don’t try to open and close with a kid that little. Good luck if you do.
- You’re taking a small train to the petting zoo in Animal kingdom. 4 year old will be worth it. They also have a vet area there with clear glass to watch them working on animals. On animal kingdom anyway, rope drop the safari. Earlier in the day animals will be moving and eating before it gets hot. You can rope drop pandora, but little one may not be tall enough to ride. You do you on ride priorities, just my opinion. Do the Lion King show also!
- yes on purchasing magic band from me. Some of it’s nastalgia, but you can use your phone for everything. If it dies or is misplaced your in a small pickle of walking to get help. Magic band is just easy tap for everything.
- use Mobile order with app when available for quick service dining. Makes it SO much easier.
- don’t rent a stroller. They suck. Bring your own.
- get a popcorn bucket your first chance. Pay initial big first fee then its like $2 refills rest of your trip to light snack on. Have a hook on your stroller and you’ve got a simple snack for when your kid gets hungry.
- watch Disney food blog on YouTube. She’s got one of best content for food related Disney stuff.
I probably wrote too Much but if you need more advice or recommendations with little ones let me know. Wife and I have plenty of things you don’t think of till you get there with little kids advice.

You should have stopped right there and convinced your wife otherwise.
Disney with a 4 year old is a fricking nightmare.

Yeahhhh I mean… why can’t you put your foot down and say yes she’s probably too young. Disney will be there next year. Let’s save all that money and use it for next year instead when she’s older and can really enjoy the experience

We’ve been with our kids several times, with the latest being a few years ago.
I know you want to get to the parks as soon as you arrive but I suggest Disney Springs. We always start there and kind of ease our way in before the week gets hectic. The kids love the Lego store and the T-Rex Cafe.
Tusker House is the best option for kids at AK. It’s a good character breakfast with a decent buffet.
It opened within the last year but I’ve heard nothing but good things about Woody’s Roundup BBQ in Toy Story Land. Could be a good option at HS. Think it’s a lot of kid friendly meals. We are excited to try it when we go back.
Like another person suggested, I’d try to get tickets to the Halloween party on one of your MK days. We’ve never done the Halloween party but have done the Christmas party.
We slept in that day, grabbed lunch around the resort and went to MK around 3. You get in with your normal pass. They start escorting people out around 6 if you aren’t attending the party. Can get your party band around Pirates and hit a few rides back there before the festivities start.
Also, it’s not promoted except at that particular resort, but Fort Wilderness will have a Halloween parade during the day with decorated golf carts. It’s just getting there that may be a hassle. And, the days change every year. They don’t let people park at the resort on that particular day bc it gets bigger every year. Maybe something to look into? You can ask the front desk at Pop Century about it if you are interested.

bookmarking this because I will also be at Disney in October with a 4 year old
We chose to not do the Halloween Party after watching a few reviews on YT, just didn't seem like it was worth the costs, especially with a 4 year old and not staying the entire time

Hollywood Studios -
The Disney Jr dance party is a lot of fun for the kiddos, and they can meet Fancy Nancy and Vamparina.
Frozen Sing Along is neat and has A/C
Andy's Lunchbox is a good place to eat lunch, make your reservation when you enter the park.
Hollywood and Vine - Ok food, but you meet the disney jr cast
Lighting’s driving school is also AC and a nice escape
Animal Kingdom
Tusker House is our favorite place to eat, great food, and mickey cast
Magic Kingdom –
Eggrolls near Jungle Cruise and dole whip are good
Casey’s corner is not bad for a quick snack
To your other points-
Be Our Guest - The food is ok, and it is overpriced. The venue is neat, but you only meet the beast. I would recommend doing lunch there.
Crystal Palace - It is a fair breakfast, but note it is Winnie the pooh characters.
Akershus - Food is ok, but you meet quite a lot of princesses there
Liberty Tree Tavern - Don’t know much about this one
EPCOT Nights - It is not bad, but I think it is at 9pm and kids are pretty tired at this point after a long day. There are two shoes of Fantasmic in Hollywood and you get a seat in an amphitheater. If you end up doing two nights in Magic Kingdom, enjoy the fireworks one night, and enjoy no lines the other.
Is the petting zoo in Animal Kingdom worth going too? No, but the safari ride is nice.
Should we purchase a magic band? It makes things so much easier than having to whip out your phone for everything. Plus, the magic+ for kids does a bunch of neat stuff after rides.
Pop Century – Resort is what it is, but you are connected to the SkyLiner with access to Hollywood and EPCOT. Very nice.
Chef Mickey in the Cotemporary is worth checking out
Ohana in the Polynesian is good for dinner and has a view of the fireworks
Toppolinos in the Rivera is great too

First off, imagine being a 4 year old going to Disney for the first time. Take pride in being able to deliver that excitement and make memories for your kid. I’ve taken my kids several times before age 5 for each of them and that’s the magic age where they can do stuff, enjoy it, and make memories. People who dread this vacation act like it’s not going to be any fun. It’s amazing and you get this trip once in a lifetime because you’ll never see her have her face light up again.
Epcot- Garden Grill breakfast. The food is solid family style, the restaurant rotates, Mickey, Pluto, chip n Dale all walk around and do a great job. It’s my favorite breakfast inside the parks.
The kidcot scavenger hunt is cool but she might be too young to do it all on her own. As you go through a few countries let her try it. Germany, UK, Canada, and Mexico are my favorites.
Magic Kingdom - Be Our Guest is insanely expensive and overrated. But I get it. If they open back up for breakfast i recommend that for sure. For dinner, it’s worth it once I guess. If your daughter would like Cinderella Castle better I’d do that. Both similar food quality and price I guess. Just depends on which character you wanna meet. Atmosphere is cool in both.
Since your daughter is too small for the long wait rides, enjoy doing everything g else with little wait.
Hollywood - SciFi Dine is a cool restaurant with good food. Kids like to eat in the cars and it’s a nice little atmosphere for adults too.
Overall I’d figure out which characters you have to meet and figure out times they are available. Make dining reservations but be flexible. Let her enjoy just having popcorn and watching a parade.

I took my family not long ago, 4 and 6 year old girls. That was our first time and everyone loved it. I'm not a seasoned Disney goer but here are my recs.
Hollywood Studios: Roundup Rodeo BBQ. Don't expect the greatest BBQ ever but it is not bad and tons of food. Kids loved the atmosphere of the Toy Story Theme. This is not character dining though.
Be Our Guest was my favorite meal. I had the steak.
Disney Springs: lots of restaurants there use OpenTable. Nice not having to wait for a table. The Bus at your resort can take you there and back.
We did Topolinos Character breakfast and was great (Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald). We saved this for the last day before going home. Most park days we just had breakfast stuff we brought. They serve Italian for dinner, I have heard it is good.

Forgot to post you those restaurants
HS
Mama Melrose - Pretty good. No complaints on food or service. It's not the best Italian your ever gonna eat, but for inside a theme park not bad.
Disney Springs
Homecomin - Food, service, & drinks were fantastic. Pretty hard to get a reservation. Would do again.
Earl of sandwich - Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. All you need to order.
Terralina Crafted Italian - Avoid. Terrible food and service.
Dluxe Burger - Same as Burgersmith here.
Rainforest Cafe or Trex - You already know what your getting into with these. Food meh / Scenery very cool.
Resort
Ohana - Dinner if you can get a reservation. Very good family style meal.

I would make the majority of your dining reservations for breakfast. It sucks having to get up early to make it, but then you have the rest of your day and you don’t have to worry about planning around a character lunch or supper.
If you rent a stroller I recommend Kingdom Strollers in Orlando. ( Not directly affiliated w/ Disney) They deliver the stroller to the front lobby of your hotel the day you get there and come get it the day you leave, it was super easy.

I would plan the EPCOT day on a weekday and do the Food and Wine festival earlier in the day. F&W can make the World Showcase area a little rowdy on weekends and at night. I would definitely go to the Halloween Party. The Boo to You Parade is very good and the Hocus Pocus show is awesome. If you don't, I would advise(like a previous poster said) to actually go to MK the day of a party. Because it closes early(6PM), people choose other parks on those days. I find we get more done before 6 on those days than we normally would all day on a regular park day. Make sure to catch the shows at Animal Kingdom, the Lion King and Finding Nemo. Avatar at night is really cool looking and the walkway is bioluminescent and lights up as you walk on it.

I will say this,
Whispering Canyon and Yak and Yeti are my two favorites.
Be Our Guest is overpriced and has SMALL portions

I don’t have much to add except you only have one kid and they’re four. It’s not that hard buddy. Sack up.

I would skip Akershus. Yea they have the Princesses but the food isn’t very kid-friendly. At least it wasn’t back in 2019 when we went.
Also the Halloween party wasn’t worth the money, honestly. My daughter was 4.5 when we went for reference.
