While I was stationed in Charleston. SC in the 60's, some of my shipmates and I were traveling to Savannah, Ga. I looked out the rear window and saw a parachute in the sky. I looked up and saw a couple of airplanes on fire. One was a single engine plane and the other was a fighter jet.
I watched the local News and scanned the News Paper for a couple days and never saw it mentioned.

I was in New Orleans, back in the 60's, at the Airport, awaiting my flight to New York for Submarine School. I felt a pain and had to use the Rest Room, that was back in the days of "Pay Toilets. When I was through, I discovered there was no toilet paper. Since I was a Seaman, making about $80.00 a month, I din't want to pay to get into the next stall. So I stepped up on the commode to reach over the stall wall, to reach the paper Roll. I looked down and there was a guy Masterbating. I quietly stepped down and left.

I worked in the marine industry for many years, I was the guy that got the 1st call for any type of casualty. I'll skip all the death and drama for a different outcome. I was in my office when I got a call that one of our boats had capsized right near the office, normally all the frickups happens in shitty weather, in the middle of the night, on a weekend. I was able to drive down the levee a few hundred yards, there is one of our towboats on it's port side, I've got the captain on a handset and I can see him sitting on a towknee, we have a crewboat a few minutes away. I ask him to account for the crew, 5 are ok, in PFD's on the side away from me, one guy is missing. I know this deckhand well, he is an extremely laid back guy, nothing phases him.

I hear a yell and there the guy is, but he is in a terrible place, it's a fast river and he is drifting under the rake of an empty barge, the rake is the sloped end, if you go under a rake, it's certain death. Someone gets on the deck of the barge and tries to throw him a line, but it's too late to help, he is going under. Just before he disappears he takes off his PFD, the last I see is his empty PFD floating under the rake.

I tell the crew boat to get behind the barge and back away, I'm thinking all we will be able to do is recover the body, a barge is 195', a long time to hold your breath. EMS pulls up next to me on the levee, as I'm explaining the situation I've got my binoculars trained on the stern of this barge. Well damn if a head doesn't pop up, the guy is shaking his long wet hair, he's waving to the crew boat to come get him. He was taken to the hospital, against his will, he wanted to wait to see if his wallet floated up (it didn't). He had a few scratches on his back from the rust scale and barnacles under the barge, but other than that, unharmed. He said he took off his PFD because he thought it would slow him down and might get caught on something.

I've seen quite a few things but wanted to share this because it doesn't revolve around death.

When I was 16 I purchased a vicious Pitbull, winter time. I threw the pup in the back seat and said I can't wait to take you to the river.

Well spring rolls around my friend, brother & I, along with dog head to the Sabine River in Burr Ferry Louisiana 1983 maybe 84. The vicious Pitbull puppy maybe 6 mo. old did not like the water & would run out as fast as I could put her in.

We were dejected and gave up on her and started drinking beer discussing our displeasure in the pup. Then all of a sudden the dog is on high alert and in the water.

She was looking at a kid she wanted to eat and I got up to smack her. I was directly behind the dog looking between her ears when I saw the kid was drowning and Viciousness was actually pulling a Lasie.

I got to the girl and swam back to where I could stand up and the Mother ran to me, as I'm giving her a piece of my mind, I turn to see my brother and my friend in the middle of the river.

My brother had one child and my friend Andy that really can't swim very well had two little girls trying to swim like 70's Aqua man holding them on top of the water palm to stomach in each hand as he was going to die trying to save them. I got to Andy and took one child from him and we all got back to shore.

My brother & I were strong swimmers. We would have been expected to rise to this occasion.

However Andy & the dog were the real hero's in this situation being to this day Andy plugs his nose & can dog paddle at best. The dog grew to love the water and was extremely protective of children, anyone's children.

We saved four little girls that day because a vicious Pitbull jumped in the water when just a few minutes earlier didn't want anything to do with it.

Anyway to top it off the little girls had older cousins there 15ish. They were all about wrongRob for saving their cousins. I rushed them off because we were drinking, smoking lefty's and they were too young.

A few years later 86 at the "Oak Trees" VFW road Leesville, they show up at a party/fire and I get to pop my cherry with both of the cousins. Vicious Pitbull for the win! Boudreaux & Gator blood line!

Two things from reading this thread

One: Motorcycles are death machines, and most of the time, it’s the other persons fault.

Two: I may never leave the house again with all the crazy random shite that happens.

On a similar note. Another speedway ..guy snuck to a spot he wasn't supposed to be. car wrecked and hit the post he was leaning on ( he was removed from that spot several times already)

Crabs on a floating body

A buck naked dude pulling a buck naked woman by the hair out of a hotel room...where another buck naked man was unconscious across a bed

The kid that jumped at Tech was upset because a friend outted him to his family, who were a well known Italian (part of the Mafia) family in Alexandria. They owned a long standing Italian restaurant. The family didn't approve and he kept it a secret up until a fews prior to him jumping.

I was a paramedic for 10yrs and yes I saw some pretty nasty things. I also saw some crazy things not dealing with death.

Ran a call in marksville, la, where a young couple was consummating there wedding. When we walked into the bedroom, the guy was sitting on his knees but covered up. Upon further inspection, his wife was backed up to him and he was stuck inside her. They had been in that position for 4hrs. She got nervous and clamped down with her vaggin, and they couldn't separate. We had to transport them to the ER so they could give her 10mg of Valium.

Two chicks in a big UHaul towing a PT cruiser. Car broke free and followed them for a couple hundred feet before veering off, jumping the service road and hitting a tree about 2ft up. I tried flagging them down but I guess they thought I was trying to hit on them so they blew me off. I should have followed and gotten their reactions when they eventually pulled over and figured it out.

Driving on the interstate in a pretty heavily populated suburb of LR. 18 wheeler going the opposite direction of me carrying pipes crashes into the median and all the pipes spill into the oncoming lanes. Cars swerving in all directions at 70mph, most ending up in the median. I dodged the first 2-3 pipes before one clipped me and I tailspun into another car. The car immediately to my right took a direct hit from a pipe through the windshield and the woman inside died immediately.

1991-- I saw Robin Williams do standup in Golden Gate Park . It was a Memorial Concert for Bill Graham. Over 300,000 people attended. The concert was free.

1992-- Also While Living in California, I heard a commotion outside my apartment. I went outside to see what was wrong-- I saw a hooker being beaten by a man in a robe, speedo-type underwear, and house shoes. He was using a belt as a "weapon". I suspect it was a hooker and a pimp. I was 8 months pregnant then, so I waddled back into my apartment as fast as possible. I did not call the cops.

Headed to the gulf coast on I12 and an exit or two past Covington saw a jeep that was running 70mph in front of us slowly veer off the road. Ol boy fell asleep and when he hit the grass there was water flying from the dew since it was right at daybreak and smoke/steam from his exhaust flying.
He rolled that jeep 3-4 times and was thrown from it we pulled up and called 911 and several other cars stopped as we walked up to him he was on all fours looking for his phone. We got him to sit still and it appeared he had not a single scratch.
We left out as the cops and ambulance for there and he was still looking for that phone.

Another time on i12 traffic was creeping and as I got to where it appeared the wreck was gonna be I saw a motorcycle up ahead on the side the road but no wrecked. As I looked to the side of it there was an OT 7 that had her arse and back completely road rashed clothes ripped (at one time it was a nice arse). It was right at one of those bridges and I think it bucked her off driver was helping her and she still had her helmet on and as I drove by you could see the shock in her eyes.

I was stationed there for a few years. I once did some work with soldiers visiting from another base and one of them looked at me and said “you people are insane”.
I don’t even recall what it was about and I don’t recall it being anything noteworthy.

I guess if you’re around that stuff long enough you just think it’s normal. I did “strap hang” and get in on a C130 jump with Special Forces. We had a female pilot and some of the soldiers gave her some grief. We did nap of the earth flying with a vengeance. I ended up being one of like three guys on that plane that didn’t puke. I’m sure the female pilot was very pleased but I can assure you the crew were pissed. Before everyone jumped they made sure to leave behind their barf bags.

It has been years, but his name was Gordon. I had no problem honoring his claim for lost personal effects.

Two things come to mind. In the early 50s we temporarily moved to MS where my dad was drilling oil wells.

Driving down the road one evening, we saw this big refrigerator box in the middle of the road, sitting upright.

Well, three knotheads we were, we started in on the old man to run over it. He calmly said no, there might be a kid or a dog in it. So he veers around it, we're doing 60, and as we look out the back window after passing, the box lifts up and two small kids run out.

Not long after that we're riding down the road one night and we pass this two story house and my middle brother says that it looked like the house was on fire.

Daddy stopped the car and backed up and an old woman and man were standing outside. We were told to stay in the car so my dad gets out, runs over to the old couple, then takes off into the house. My mom is in a panic and we're all scared shitless.

In a couple of minutes daddy comes running out with a baby in his arms, hands the baby off to the old woman, and damn if he doesn't run back in. Couple more minutes, dad comes back out with another kid.

Fire department pulls up, dad gets in our car, and we drive off like not a damn thing happened.

Some things in life you never forget. Daddy was an old WWII Marine who spent three years in the South Pacific and had been through a lot of shite he never would talk about. The heroic effort he showed saving those two kids was just another walk in the park I guess.
