Absent the car accident there's no telling how good he would have been in the NFL.
Or baseball.
One of my all time favorite Tigers.
Character is destiny and I'm sure he'll do well in anything he tries in future.

List looks solid enough for me
This all day. "Top athletes" is so subjective that there are dozens (if not hundreds) of names that could legit be on that list. And the five he listed are definitely among them. And I think the most rewarding (and inspiring) part of it is that he left himself off the list knowing darn good and well he is 100% a legit choice.
He hit a low point several years ago as a young man that was unfortunately all too public due to his situation. Since that low point he has done nothing but impress me as a man and a player both on and off the field. I would absolutely LOVE the chance to sit and talk about football (or anything else) with him over a cold beverage or two of his choice.

Top 5 Athletes period!! That list will not ever include a female unless you are talking about Top 5 Athletes in an all female school.
That’s the dumbest thing you could say. It’s not comparing man to woman. It’s athletes in an LSU uniform part of that is what their successes are. Seimone Augustus has more success than Marcus Thornton but that doesn’t mean Marcus Thornton can’t beat her one on one but that also doesn’t make Marcus the better LSU athlete all time.

Great list, although I'd put Mathieu on it.

IMO, I don't see where it's anywhere possible for Angel Reese to overtake Seimone. Hell, before she even be in that conversation, she would have to overtake Sylvia Fowles and that's a steep mountain to climb.
I mean, she’s already done the one thing they couldn’t do

Yeah, TM’s list is solid, but Pete is the best College Basketball player if all time; hard to leave him out, as it is Cannon. We remember the current guys, as that’s what’s fresh in our memory, but even statistically, it’s hard to even argue against Pete being there…

Chad Jones isn’t mentioned enough on this board.
An amazing athlete!

Billy Cannon, Pete, Shaq could have replaced one or more on that list.

It’s fun discussing….but Duplantis is the best pole vaulter in the world.

Pistol is a must to the list

Hard to argue with that list. I figured he would have PP7 at #1. He has meant a lot to the honey Badger on and off the field.

Proves he ain't Ray Cyst.

Pete Maravich has to be on that list.
This is Mathieu's list, not yours or anyone else's.
quote:Again, this isn't your list, this is his. And Mathieu was a DB.
Chad Jones was a great athlete but wouldn't even be top 15.
Chad Jones was a DB initially from Nola, a few years ahead of Mathieu. He was a (THE) star DB at LSU, while Mathieu was in high school in Nola.
Quite likely was the inspiration for him to come to LSU.
The rest of the list-
Peterson; All-American stud and mentor while he was here.
Shaq; larger than life figure, who was still widely known (and a #1 pick). He probably watched a lot of him growing up.
Burrow and Crews, guys who came afterwards, won national titles and high draft picks.
I doubt Mathieu knows much beyond name recognition of Maravich, a guy who played about half a century before he did, in a sport he was probably too short to play competitively.
