Pete Maravich. Above all
Pistol Pete is an alltime great in basketball, but he's not inspiring kids to come play football at LSU after the year 2000. He left LSU in 1970, retired in 1980, died in 1988. Mathieu was born in 1992.
He also didn't list Cannon, the other Heisman winner, probably because to him, that's just a name on a plaque.

I'd include Mondo Duplantis.

“Of all time” lists are goofy. Here’s why.
Billy Cannon is important. He was LSU’s sole Heisman winner forever. He’s a legend, a two time pro-bowler, and his name will live in LSU lore forever.
Here’s what a different game he was playing:
Over three, 10-game seasons at LSU he averaged 5.2 YPC but never reached 700 yards & only reached 600 once.
The man literally played against Lombardi’s packers in Super Bowl TWO.
He’s the most iconic LSU athlete there is.
On the other hand… Chad Jones walked in a college baseball game for the first time in his life, in relief with Auburn threatening and nobody out, and struck out both batters he faced… went on to help us win a World Series in 2009.
THE SAME YEAR he also had 37 tackles + 3 picks + like punt returns for tuddies and shite
Before they discovered he could pitch due to injuries thinning staff, he was a really good hitter and fielder.

LSU simply has had too many great athletes across all sports come through, where narrowing it down to 5 means you're inevitably leaving great ones out entirely. Comparing across sports and eras is a difficult task

How may one be a 21-time All-American?

Jones skillset would have fit very well in todays game.
He would have been a great OLB against the spread offense and the thing that never gets talked about is how great he would have been as a receiving tight end, he might have had some of the best hands we've ever seen at LSU and would have been a matchup nightmare over the middle.

That’s because the NCAA had crazy substitution rules back then. You could only enter the game twice per quarter. That’s why everyone played both ways. That’s why Dietzel implemented the three team platoon system. The White team, the Go team and the Chinese Bandits.
Had Cannon played with todays rules he would’ve eclipsed 1000 yards easily.

I think I'd drop Chad Jones and add Pistol Pete or the Honey Badger.

Top 4 don't seem that debatable. 5 is where it gets tricky.
Agreed, those are my 4 locks. I love me some PP7 and Chad Jones, but I’d have Tyrann himself above both. His 2011 is the best defensive season I’ve watched in the same way Burrrow’s 2019 is the best offensive season. Both game changers in every sense.

Any LSU GOAT list that doesn’t include Heather Van Norman is incomplete.
4x100 & 4x400
A timeline…
1991 (June) - National Champ.
1992 (June) - National Champ.
1992 (November) - Gives birth to OBJ.
1993 (June) - National Champ.
She won natties before, during and after incubating an LSU All-American.

Based off sheer athleticism tyrus Thomas should be in top 5
