I always carry with one in the pipe which to me seems logical. I generally carry a Glock 19 or 45 with no external safety. I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry 2 which I utilize the thumb safety but still keep one in the chamber. I have a few work baws that are scared to do it. What say the OB? I cant fathom carrying a gun without it being hot.

I never understand how people even wonder that. I agree, a bad guy isn't going to stop and wait for you to rack one in that kind of situation. Always be ready.

If there isn't a round in the chamber you might as well carry a rock

I no longer carry the 365 with one in the chamber.

Lots of reasons but the main one is that I can't stand the thought of what is basically a cocked single action pistol with one under the hammer sweeping people with the muzzle.

To me, the risks of having one in the pipe drastically outweigh the odds of me needing to deploy the gun in defense of life with no time to chamber a round.

Basic risk assessment for me says that round in the chamber is a bad idea with that handgun. Trigger pull is too light and too short for 100% no doubt no way anybody accidently pulls it.

why utilize a thumb safety if you generally don't have an external safety?

Unreasonable to carry without one in the chamber. If you have a "device", which, due to design flaws you do not trust to be safely carried, then do not carry that "device".

They are going to ask the bad guy for a timeout so they can load their weapon I guess.

Yes, but I trust my safety and have good finger discipline.

One in mine it's DA though. Make it a no brainer. When I carried a small 1911 I was definitely a lot more nervous about it.

The fun and games have already started. The few times I do carry, it's with one in the chamber

I've met a few Israelis that carry without one in the chamber. They pull and rack in a very fluid motion. Having seen them in action at a range I would not even contemplate it without an extreme amount of training.

If you're going to carry for protection, why wouldn't you?

Which leads to my second point,

If you're worried you may negligently or otherwise accidently discharge your weapon if you carry with it properly loaded then you should not be carrying. You should train until you no longer feel incapable of safely carrying and handling your weapon.

I like to give my opponent a sporting chance. Plus, the sound of the slide being racked is really cool. That's why i generally carry a shotgun for ccw.

I say carry.

Round chambered…no round chambered. Safety on…or no safety.

We all make choices that might change depending on our surroundings.

Whatever makes a person comfortable enough to carry is my view. That said..we all know someone who carries who probably shouldn’t. I’ve got a buddy who carries a damn Taurus G something in his waistband without a holster.

He’ll shoot his dick off one day.
