So I have been wanting to get into a high end watch lately but have been dicking around with it.

Now I have an event this weekend that I'd like to have something for. This won't be my high-end purchase, as I'd like to take my time on that and learn a bunch more.

What would you all recommend for something to get in a day or two? Jewelry store? New? Used? Pawn shop? Ebay+NextDayAir?

I want to find a general use keeper, not something throw-away or returnable.

Budget $500-$1500?

Thouhgts?

I think Hamilton watches are popular around here in that price range

I think Stowa are the coolest watches for that price…see if someone on eBay will overnight one to you.

Jomashop offers overnight shipping, I think it is reasonable like $30 or so.

Without knowing what type of watch you want and if you want quartz or mechanical it is hard to make a suggestion because it is just throwing darts blindly.

Give us an idea what you are looking for, there are lots of options in the price range although a lot of them are out due to the tight timeframe.

A marathon GSAR should be around the middle of that price range.

You aren't getting any fancy in house movement stuff in that price range behind seiko I don't think. For me, worrying about the guts is kinda silly. You're adding several thousand dollars to start getting into Rolex, grand seiko, omega, etc.

A Seiko Alpinist makes a very nice second watch if you re not hung up on the Swiss, great Explorer alternative that is its own thing.

What do you want your high-end watch to look like? Do you have anything in mind, other than it be expensive?

If you give us an idea of what you are looking for, then perhaps a budget find can be made.

I'll square with you though, this entire concept seems silly.

To be honest, under 2k doesn’t get you a high end watch. If you can bump it a bit to around 3.5 you can get a 1980s Rolex

I would go find a jewelry store or department store that sells seikos. Try on a few and see what you like. I’ve had my samurai for a few years and it’s beat the frick up but I love it. Can be casual daily wear or easily dress up with a suit. I think they go for $500-600.

Honest question.

What’s the benefit of a midrange watch? Why not wait and go big when you’re ready.
