I'm going to start building rail yards in S. Vegas and Yuma, AZ tomorrow.
Rail all the shite coming into LB and mfg'd in CA to NV and AZ, and then truck it wherever it needs to go in the rest of the country.

It's digusting how California is holding the entire trucking industry by the balls and had their northern neighbors doing the same shite.
Wanna know why it takes three miles for a truck to get to 55 mph and why they slow down so much going up hills and mountains? California emissions neutered the power under the hood.
Wanna know why trucks have to get out in the left lane way sooner than normal to pass other trucks? California mandated the "assisted braking" nonsense which makes trucks stay certain distances from other vehicles. They have to move to the left lane then speed up. It's so damned stupid but those politicians don't have to deal with it on the roads.
This electric truck nonsense is never going to work, but they don't care because it they can be super smug about signing shite legislation that affects the whole country to get their names in the papers. For a truck stop to be able to charge all of the parked trucks overnight, they'll need the same amount of power used for a Super Bowl in the Superdome. That's EVERY TRUCK STOP in this country every night - not to mention all of the private parking lots and warehouses. Let's also talk about range. Are they magically going to pop up charging stations for thousands of trucks trying to get across the desert leaving Southern California? Or how's about that 12k ft climb to get up and over Donner to Reno and points west? The range on electric trucks is about 300 miles on flat land. That means for a truck driver would have to stop approx 10-15 times for several hours to get produce from the Mexican border up to the northeast, in comparison to 4 or 5 fuel stops that takes 15-20 minutes.
This is so stupid.

Savannah as well. 2nd or 3rd largest port on East Coast and planning to expand again.

Anyone that supports this is a fricking idiot.

Savannah needs to expand truck parking, big time. Getting as bad as the northeast to find a parking spot out there in the southern half of i-95. I picked up a load of sugar from the port area and couldn't find a parking spot for 30 miles at 4pm.

Plenty of other options, you just have to plan for extra time on the water. It can actually be cheaper to come to east coast.
Of course, I'd love to say frick both CA and China and just truck shite up from Mexico if we really need third world produced stuff.

What would we be looking at per citizen to create a magnet train system like Japan has? Could existing tracks be retro fit?

for a regional type carrier to charge all their trucks at once, i think I heard it would take more power than most normal sub stations have.

I saw a clip of a congressional hearing this week, a guy was talking about making a request fo the draw to charge 30 something trucks, the power company thought the request was a joke because it was so huge.
The problem with moving the shipping to the East Coast is the contain er ships that don't fit through the Panama Canal. I don't know what percentage are too big, maybe someone else does. I don't know how going around the globe by the southern great circle looks in comparison to the northern one.

If the goal is propelling the prices of goods and services through the roof this will work.

I really, really hope California continues to go all in on this and shows the rest of the country how truly stupid these mandates are in this day in age (and with current electric infrastructure).
All of the major companies want California’s business so bad that they conform. Then those companies pass the bullshite stuff down to us.
For instance CARB compliant is a California standard. But now you pretty much can’t buy something that isn’t CARB compliant because it’s not economical for a company to build 2 of the same thing with minor changes. So they only make the CARB compliant one.
This makes a California rule the de facto rule of the land.
So while I like to see stupid California feel good legislation fail, I know that I’m actually it’s going to be forced on all of us non-crazy people.

you guys are lost on imports...what about exports? Thats gonna hurt everybody that buys fruits and nuts from California.

California agricultural products are shipped to 200 individual countries worldwide. Canada is the top export market, followed by the European Union, Japan, China and Mexico....

My very first thought. The people that make up these laws in California are fricking nuts.
Of course I'm sure they didn't factor in the additional cost of products being shipped in and out of that state when this mandate goes into effect.
Then let them pay $9 for a loaf of bread and $15 for a dozen eggs.

I guess you could ship it to Seattle or expand rail use but you are adding to shipping costs massively.
If you have to go through the Panama Canal to FL, TX or GA you’ve added a ton of time and fuel costs to your shipping.
None of this is possible, because we don’t have the port capacity without the CA ports.

Just wait for a few EV big rigs to blow their battery packs climbing one of those passes, or the regenerative braking to fail going down. Imagine the clean up of a semi-tractor-sized lithium battery bank that underwent thermal runaway.

This is nothing more than a “looks good on paper” thing.
It needs to be put into play so the crash and burn can happen so they all realize that it’s just not ever gonna work
