What's your point? That because he didn't make it to Omaha l
The point is a coach can recruit and build a team that is stout and it not matter.
I’m not at all saying Vitello is bad. I wanted him at LSU before Jay.
I’m saying that winning is hard to do.
Building a program is even harder.
Wes may do great at Georgia, but my bet is he is back in the MLB in a few years

It means being the pitching coach at LSU and doing a good job should get you a better job than one that doesn’t care about baseball
Not sure he'd get a better job than an SEC job just sticking around as an assistant coach at LSU. Assistant coaches, regardless of where, don't typically make that type of jump. The only one from LSU I can think of who did was Cannizzaro. The rest have always gone to mid-majors or underwhelming P5s

I know this was his end game but I was hoping for a minimum of 2 seasons
Oh well…swing big Jay

Well Skenes in particular praises Wes and Floyd has given him credit for re-shaping his off-speed stuff. Look, I'm not taking sides. While Wes is a friend and a great person, his staff struggled most of the year and that's on him.

It's obvious though that him and JJ were having issues because JJ has been making almost all the mound visits for the last few weeks. Wes looks frustrated in the dugout. I have thoughts about JJ's staff handling style but will leave that out.
Maybe Wes should realize Jay's the head coach and can do whatever the eff he wants, eh?

Well Vitello has clearly done that. Went to a regional final in 2019 (year 2), COVID in year 3, the CWS in year 4, won the SEC in year 5 and choked in the supers, and are back in the supers this year with a great path to Omaha. Yes, winning is hard, especially in baseball, but he's built that program to being in play for the CWS annually in a pretty damn short amount of time.

You can be good at helping a guy develop stuff, but that doesn’t mean you are the best at deciding when it should be used or leaned on.

Kendall Rogers reporting Campbell’s coach turned UGA down

Maybe that’s why the pitching all of a sudden looks like they can get outs
I thought it was strange to stop seeing him go out there and call it a coincidence but no doubt the pitching got better when Jay started running out there. My Dad(played catcher at LSU) has a theory that Wes's prostyle message/mindset was not resonating well with college kids. Makes sense.

He doesn't need to go anywhere until he gets the offer he wants.
He's going to kill it wherever he ends up.

You’re wrong. There is a ton of HS talent in GA. They are getting serious about baseball. Wes isn’t taking a job where he can’t succeed.

I never said Vitello wasn’t good. I was making the point that you can recruit the best team on paper and not perform. This was all in regards to Wes and having “fertile” grounds in Georgia.

Well JJ did call him "the best pitching coach on the planet" earlier in the season. I'm just saying, there's more to this story.
Posted on 6/5/23 at 5:01 pm to GarTiger
I know it’s been said that Wes called all the pitches per JJ. I felt like he didn’t mix up his pitches well for some guys. No idea if that caused any issues between he and JJ but I remember several pitch sequences where we would throw multiple breaking balls in a row. Even when the pitcher was struggling to find the zone with that pitch. Just seemed like a really different approach. I don’t think you can put the arm injuries on Wes with the numbers you see nationally either.
