Definitely do not want to burn Skenes on Friday against 40L Tulane. I would gamble and start Hurd while he's hot that way you have Floyd and Skenes for the next 2 games.

It's not a gamble, it's the only move.

I'd gamble even further and start Money. If he has trouble, you go to Hurd.

I dont think its much of a gamble and is exactly what Jay will do to save Skenes for game 2, then use Floyd game 3

Fact is even if Tulane starts their best pitcher it's a guy with an ERA north of 5 and teams are hitting not far under .300 against...if we cant beat that guy then we have huge issues.

Not to mention Tulane cant hit either (.250 on the season).

There's a reason they only won 15 games this season prior to their conference tournament.

Yea, Little, Money, Collins, Dutton, Cooper, & Hurd pitched the midweek game against them and held them to 5 runs despite walking 7.

Big picture I don't think it's a gamble. I think it gives you the best chance of winning the regional. It's more of a gamble using one of your top 2 starters.

I think much of the disagreement on this is people who simply don't comprehend evaluating risk over multiple events vs. a single event.

It would actually be more of a gamble to start Skenes game 1 than literally anyone else.

Meaning, you're taking a game 1 win against the easiest team in the regional with your ace and expecting the rest of your staff to win 2 or 3 more games against the better teams without Skenes.

That's not much of a gamble. Hurd has pitched well lately so this is the smart play for Friday to keep building on his confidence level. Even without his best stuff as long as he hits the strike zone he should dominate Tulane. If he's on his game, Tulane has 0 chance because you're then looking at ace stuff on the mound as a day 3 guy.

I'd gamble with Money personally in case we need Hurd in out of the bullpen for any game. Money will throw strikes and Tulane's bats are not good enough to keep pace with hitting his stuff in the gap with LSU's bats.

Or use Little so we don't have to see him again in the regional. Plus you get to see it get spicy with the melt on tRant.

TBH I hate the idea of gambling on the Friday game. You can't mess around and screw up that game. Hurd has been great and I think we can trust him to get the job done but you simply have to win. Tulane has a terrible record but they are playing with nothing to lose and in this sport shite happens that's unexplainable. I just hate this idea of gambling when losing is unacceptable and embarrassing in game 1. It has to be one of Hurd/Floyd/Skenes. No gamble, can't lose.

Even that is a minimal gamble vs 19-40 Tulane. And no, they are not better than their record and are not on a roll now.

Its absolutely not a gamble. Its the correct play.

The 1 seed will normally pitch its midweek or 3rd starter against a 4 in the first round of the regional. That way you save your ace for the winners bracket which is more likely to be the 2 seed.

I would take the gamble a step further and try to get a combined 5 or 6 innings out of Coleman and Money. Then hopefully LSU is up big and you can close it out with anyone. Save Hurd for Monday or a big relief spot on Saturday or Sunday.

The only other move I could see is they give Coleman the start to go 3-4 innings and then give the ball to Money/Cooper. Otherwise its give the ball to Hurd. Either way Skenes and Floyd are not going to pitch against Tulane game 1.

Gambling would be starting Skenes.

The goal this weekend isn't to beat Tulane, it's to beat 3 teams.
