Why did this get 20 downvotes? Isn't money the only reason people have a job? I guess unless you are doing what you truly love, but for the most part everyone is working to get paid and should look for every opportunity possible to get paid more.

There must be a lot of company men on this board.

Every year that passes I feel more like Peter from office space. I’m not miserable and don’t hate what I do by any means (finance role within commercial real estate), but at this point I couldn’t care less about advancing in my field / career.

I feel as though my interest and ambition peaked years ago and I’ve just been coasting ever since. I’m approaching my late 30s and wondering, is this it until I can retire or do I switch it up. Problem is I have no other interests in the professional world that I’m currently aware of.

Any of you baws feel the same way?

im at a point that if i move up any more the pay doesnt match the level of bullshite and my pay per hour would actually go down....so year im like that.

unfortunately all of my superiors do not see it that away and keep essentially forcing things on me. starting to piss me off. All the old guys out here love them a title so they think everyone else cares about that. I care a lot more about my pay per actual hour worked and the amount of bullshite i have to put up with.

i also do not want to supervise people as much as possible anymore, but they seem to feel otherwise

love my job but that shite pisses me off.

I care about my career. I want to be exceptional, I want to be the best. I don't apologize for that.

This is normal in mid-40's but in your 30's, that's too young

That's exactly what I was going to say. OP is too young to feel unmotivated. That's usually for the late 50's/early 60's folks who are just drained mentally and physically.

Eh, it's the OT. I'm not surprised. My BIL just graduated from college and doesn't have a job because "he can't find a job doing what he loves"

It’s the vast majority of people. It’s rare to truly love what you do and make a good living at it.

I fricking hate what I do. But it pays well enough to give my wife and kids a comfortable life which is the only thing that matters to me anyway. So every day I just try to keep that in mind and it makes not going berserk in the office a little easier.

Great way to look at your career. Seems like most on here are a bunch of losers. Not an Entreprenurial thought on here. Get off your asses an create something.

Well I’m a living testament you can feel unmotivated at 36. How can one set an age minimum to indifference towards a job/career?

from the lyrics of the song that you chose to put the title of under your username...

Look like nothin's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sounds like a mid life crisis.

Get your butthole bleached. Be somebody.

You’ll feel tons better.

I'm so tired of everyone acting and pretending like they give too much of a crap about their job beyond the paycheck.

Do I want the best for my clients? Absolutely.
Would I immediately stop all of my work those clients if I stopped getting a paycheck? Absolutely.

I work to live, not live to work. Quite honestly, my side hustle is more important to me than my main job in terms of fulfillment and my interests, but I just need my main job to pay the bills.

My main job is easy work too and a quite cushy position, but that doesn't make me care more. It just means I'm able to care even less than I did for my last, more intense job.
