Activated platelets form a thrombus (clot). This thrombus narrows arteries and if it’s enough results in acute ischemic strokes.
High cholesterol mixed with high blood pressure makes this even worse

Yeah I’ve heard of seemingly random clots killing or maiming relatively healthy or normal people since forever and certainly prior to 2020. We could talk frequency or likelihood or something but definitely wasn’t mainly an issue for geriatrics.
