I get to choose the caliber of a Christensen Arms bolt action rifle in

300 PRC
300 Win
30-06
308
7 Mag
7mm 08
270
6.5 PRC
6.5 Creedmore

Convince me which caliber I should choose. Obviously, I have a preference. But, I’ll hang up and listen. TIA.

I’d need to know what, where and how you hunt to choose a caliber.

If it was for me, I’d have a hard time choosing between 30-06, 308, 270 and 7-08.

What do you already have? Where do you hunt most and what ranges?
I have a CA mesa in 300wm and the recoil is extremely manageable although loud with the brake on shooting 150s. It can pretty much cover any hunt/game in the country.

Congrats! That’s a pretty impressive win.

As for the caliber, get what YOU want or need and don’t think twice about it. Those are all awesome calibers and it’s a personal preference based on what you’ll be hunting, how you’ll be hunting, and what you may already have. For instance, I already have 7-08, .308, and access to 2 different 30-06 options with family, so I’d personally want a magnum caliber. I’m planning a moose hunt and prefer readily available ammo, so 300 Win would make me a happy man, but that may not be what you need. I’d be thrilled to have such an opportunity to help augment my options, so go for what compliments your hunting/shooting styles, as opposed to replacing your current stock.

I’m not sure of the barrel lengths they offer but I’m probably going to grab a shorter barreled 7mm 08 at some point.

Whatcha gonna do with it?

For me, with what I already have and do, I would get a .30-06

Load up some mouse fart loads for my boy and let it be his first rifle .

If we just want something cool, 300 PRC

If we are talking practical then .308 is the only option. If we are going for fun in a practically free rifle then I am still grabbing the 300WM

Yea but this is free. No need to talk practical. We should go for biggest kaboom.

Having several calibers you listed myself…if I could go back 35 years and start my deer hunting life over…I’d go with 270 and use it exclusively.

Main reason for me is that the 2 best hunters I know use a 270. I’ve helped one of them load many bucks up.

I’ve been with him and never - not one time - heard him shoot more than once. I’ve also never had to help him track a deer. He probably could do the same with any caliber, though….dude is a machine.

Would’ve saved me a ton of money not buying for so many calibers. I do love my soft shooting 6.5 cm though, and was able to find it regularly through ammo shortages locally…270, not so much.

And it would be a Winchester Model 70 with a real wood stock. Not this plastic stocked crap I have in my safe.

7mm. Performs close to the 300. Not as much kick.
It’s free. Bigger is better to me.
