Not a problem when the family pet is well taken care of and safely contained, but when they escape or the owner turns them loose for whatever reason, they cause problems for the local ecosystem that may not be easily fixed. See Florida with all the invasive reptile problems due to pet owners releasing their exotic snakes when they got too big.

Maybe LDWF can inspect the home and the cage its kept in and give some sort of special permit to let them keep it. But there’s a good reason why certain animals aren’t allowed to be kept as pets. The idiots who don’t secure their animals or turn them loose when keeping the pet becomes inconvenient ruin it

There’s probably 9 billion nutria running around east Jefferson. If this one gets out, it ain’t gonna make a difference.

So in a 24 period, we have state officials that have do little to do that they seize a key nutria, and we have other state officials that need an extra 6 months to review traffic studies for a store that has a beaver mascot.

Got it.

Lol ! I remember we used to joke about that amongst ourselves. Jackson would play like he was talking into the shoulder mic, “ i got the speckled trout in sight “ Lol

Love the bit about being dressed in tactical and then getting aggressive with the home owners because the nutria wasnt home

All I read was that they were wearing fatigues. Odd thing to point out since fatigues are pretty
Common pants for anyone in law enforcements. And douchebag try hards in gun stores.
Also didn’t see anything saying they got aggressive.

Sounds like you’re the one triggered over this and you’re searching for something to stoke your outrage.

Agree though that it’s a poor use of resources.

Yeah you see them guys that draw their gun like a robot push it out from their chest, and pivot like a tank turret ; they parade around in 6 pocket green 5.1.1 pants.

We never drew a gun like that in the academy.

This is fricking stupid. Those guys work in the field all day and climb in and out of boats and trucks. They aren't going to wear a suit or a city police uniform.

That being said, what a brain dead terrible move by the agency. Show up, tell the dude there is a Permit process to keep a nutria and help him fill out the forms. Don't go in and try to seize the animal. What fricking idiots.

I have dealt with those dudes twice over the years. Once we were squirrel hunting by the MS levee and a dude walked up dressed as a hunter and was asking about our hunt and making small talk. Then he badged us and demanded to see our hunting licenses. Just fricking wear the uniform and check us without the subterfuge.

The other time we were leaving our duck lease and there were eight or nine of us in four pirouges crossing the Intercoastal Canal. They were waiting around the corner in two center consoles and waited until we were in the middle of the canal and came roaring up like it was a SWAT drug bust. All of us almost capsized and we were pretty pissed. They made us toss all our shotguns in their bow and then they shook us down for ducks. I asked why they couldn't have just waited by our trucks on the opposite bank. It wasn't like we were going to run off and leave our trucks.

I am pro-police (cue BOOTLICKER!!!) but these dudes aren't very professional in my experience.

Nothing in this story indicates anything tactical or aggressive was worn or done. Not sure what the OPs point is other than it’s a fools errand. But it’s not like they kicked the door in wearing balaclavas so I don’t know why he went down that road.

Sensationalism.

Although, I see the point of what they're doing, I don't see the point of seizing a pet.

If they were releasing them, then ya, I get it.

And this is how you lose any future support of LaWLF funding by the public. Whoever the idiot was that sent those two agents out to these people's home needs to be fired.

Also the only reason this happened is because the media told a human interest story about the nutria.

It’s not like DWF did some sort of investigation and came upon this.
