Somehow I don’t see their kids carjacking people

You really sound like an idiot here. There’s no such thing as a $500 Marucci bat. A 5’1” 12 year old has nothing to do with how good a player they will be. You say they like to say “Gucci” while you use “cringe”. Quit talking out of your arse.

Now price the bats for 12 year olds

Small % of kiddy ball is “little league”…. Simply call it all money ball
That's what I'm dreading for my lil baw.
When I was a kid me and the same ~120ish kids played football in the fall, basketball in the winter/spring, baseball in the spring/summer and soccer in the late summer at the same playground our entire childhood before high school. There was one select team for each sport that would play the other playgrounds around jefferson parish. That was it. None of us went pro, but we all had fun. We had practice twice during the week and ONE game on the weekends all at the same neighborhood playground and most kids arrived by bike.
From what I can tell and what I hear some of the older people at work say, this is basically dead and the average kid is only focusing on one or MAYBE 2 sports by the time they are 9 or 10 and you're traveling all over the place half the year.
I have a friend who has a 9 year old boy and I think his baseball team has tournaments set from Texas to Florida this year. I don't think the kid has ever played organized football or basketball. frick that.

Now it seems they just like to cosplay like baseball players.
Insufferable twits.

You answered your own question.

These signs are up at a lot of youth fields where I officiate. And yet the parents STILL act like Brayydin and Jaxxxxten have lost their scholarship/pro career over a judgement call in a U8 rec game.
True story from Monday night- I am a HS soccer referee and assessor in GA. I'm watching a game at the HS in the district where I live and had to have the game administrator eject a spectator for referee abuse. The spectator in question was the AD's wife; the game administrator had to eject his own spouse.
That's not even the worst part; the woman's daughter who was on the field playing just got certified as a referee a month ago. Her older brother refereed for me for 2 years before he went off to college. And, to top it off, she bragged on her Facebook page that she got tossed. I mean, the lack of self-awareness among people these days is ridiculous.

It feels like around 10-15 years ago the travel baseball folks were let in on the grift that is competitive cheer and turned their model into that. Expensive events out of town where there's a constant need for new alternate uniforms and more and more expensive training sessions for little Braxton, Kolton, Jaxton and Kannon, just like there is for Kayleigh, Breighleigh, Ryeleigh.
It kind of makes sense that the cheer mom and travel baseball dad have molded into almost the same person.

I have seen the same and always have a good chuckle. I have some friends whos kids do this. They all walk around in the ridiculous glasses acting like they are Nolan Ryan and too cool to talk to us.
Like, you're 12 years old. Take your shades and hat off inside and look the grown ups in the eyes and say "thank you" for the food.

Now the new baseball bats have a handle that looks like an axe handle. Just some BS thing that Easton probably invented to get all the kids to want a new $400 bat.
I guarantee my Black Magic from 1985 could hit just as well at that age as these new bats they keep inventing.

Travel ball ruined baseball. It took rec leagues away essentially by making it watered down. It made baseball a rich sport by glorifying $800 bats annually and poor kids just quit playing.
Sadly though it’s a parent popularity sport where kids are placed on teams based on who is the in crowd socially. Some of the kids are just not good but they look down on rec league kids who might even be better but choose to play other sports too.

You're right about that. I don't know about '85 but it's pretty well known that the bats from the late '90s are the hottest bats that were ever produced.

Rec Leagues never adapted. There are things they could have done to keep them great. Parents are dying to play rec ball.

Cost is only $30,000 to $40,000 per team at this point. And a lot of times you even get to have one of the kids dads be the coach. Then if your kid does not play enough or bat high enough in the order to your liking, just jump to a new team the next year.

If you don't like public batting cages, build one in your backyard.
If you have a friend with an expensive bat, make sure they are your friend. They may replace/upgrade the bat next year. For $50, it could be yours next season.
Talk to your kid about what he sees on the field. Ask him his thoughts on sportsmanship after the game (both the parents' and the kids' behavior). The best ways to learn life lessons are seeing and doing. He most likely knows what acting like a douche is. Talking about the behavior right after the events will most likely make sure he isn't ever tempted to go there in the heat of the moment. And knowing your son is paying attention will help you keep a level head when a volunteer/underpaid ump makes a mistake.
