Soccer is the best youth sport…an athletic kid could start any sport in Jr High, after competing at a high level in soccer, and make the high school team…baseball, basketball, football, track, tennis, swimming…literally every kid would better off playing soccer from 7 or 8 onto Jr High.

This is so incredibly stupid for you to say, holy shite

My son quit soccer his freshman year…doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great sport to develop athleticism and grit.

So your son is a known quitter, but could play any sport he wanted to in high school, because he played soccer…

Has he ever played baseball before?

Or do you think he just just figure it out overnight?

Soccer is like Ping Pong, it’s for the kids who don’t have the talent for any real sports.

It's a mental game with running galore all while handling the ball with your feet. Unlike most other sports, you can't get by with size and strength alone. Funny how kids good at soccer, stay good as adults, whereas those kids that grew faster, and thus dominated youth sports, can't hack it in college/pros. Boiled down:Soccer is a better indicator of talent at the youth level.

He’s just got a frame to sling it. My first cousin was drafted out of high school as a pitcher to the Cubs. IDK, I think he could.

Plays QB and can sling it. Just picked up tennis and he can pop a serve.

He’s not a baseball fan, but he goes to cheer on his friends.

You never answered the question. Why?

I’m just trying to clarify…. Your son has never played baseball, yet you think he could just pick it up and contribute because he plays soccer?? That’s asinine

If he would have started in the 7th grade, like I said…then yes because he played soccer and learned to focus and give 100% he could have made the baseball team in high school. That is my premise. Why would you think that’s out of reach?

Wonder why their kids are little shits these days…

Let’s ask the driveway mom’s with the wine glasses telling people to slow down in the neighborhood.

Depends on the team, though on almost every team a good enough athlete will be able to overcome a lack of early skills development and still make the team. IMO

But I do know that there are some people who believe that a kid has to not only be playing baseball at a young age, he has to be playing ELITE level baseball by middle school to have a chance in high school. I think that kind of thing is very highly dependent on where you are. I know of at least three high school baseball teams in my area who would be glad to take on basically any decent athlete with a good attitude who wanted to be on the team.

it's definitely interesting.

where i grew up (very small town), there was no travel baseball. basically all the the hs baseball players were two or three sport athletes. you defintely could have picked it up later in life if you were a good athlete. then, i move to louisiana and most of the hs baseball have been playing baseball year round-ish since elementary or middle school and probably gave up other sports in junior high.

Travel ball is still new enough IMO that we don’t know the long term effects, but one thing thats happening is that it has decimated rec participation which cuts out whole swathes of the population from experiencing any kind of competitive baseball, so we have this echelon of kids who are pushing development to levels not seen before by high school age but then everybody else either gets no development or just quits at 10 years old.
Ultimately I think that will mean fewer great players overall in comparison with the rest of the world.
I see very few black players at the youth level, for one thing. Maybe that’s different in less rural places.
