Wait, Pell grants already did this.
Well, that's what they said.

I'm a lawyer, so I'm all for dumbing down lawyers to make my job easier. However, only the best and brightest should be allowed to perform medical procedures on other humans.

The law field is pretty bimodal from what I've read. It's fascinating how much prestige matters for law.

You have a ton of lawyers making between $50,000 to $90,000 and then a ton that make around $170,000-$190,000.

Standardized testing is dumb overall. You know who passed all the MCAT stuff? Dr. Death did. Med school does a pretty good job of weeding people out naturally and to get board certified to practice is what really matters.

Medical schools have historically been dominated by white men from privileged backgrounds, making no room for racial minorities, poor individuals, and those with other minority statuses (LGBTQ, rural, first-generation). Today, nearly one in four medical students reported coming from a home in the top 5 percent of all households with an income.

There's rhetorical slight of hand here. Do you see it? First sentence mentions how white men HISTORICALLY dominated. Then, they tell you that "today" people in the top 5% of INCOME dominate.

They're intentionally trying to get the reader to focus on white men. This isn't an accident. Because, you see, women now constitute the majority of people in medical school. But, we're not allowed to be mad at white women!!!!

This works if you just want bots with bedside manners that just follow hospital admin and pharma guidelines.

How bout some self service clinics with symptom flowcharts on the wall and meds in vending machines?
Actually I might prefer that to waiting 3 weeks to see a Doogie Houser wannabe that likes to say "well as we get older..."

Commie red flag.

The world of medicine will survive non-merit based selection, but a lot of patients won't until the market sorts it out.

It’s almost impossible to overestimate the role that the failing public school system has on the underperformance of minorities in situations like this.

then do something about the schools or leave for a better one.

just don't eliminate the MCAT because of the fact.

Most of the time I don't care about what the person providing the service to me looks like but when I see a black doctor I always wonder if got to where he is because of affirmative action. Same with engineering and similar fields. I don't understand why we don't just treat everyone equally... making special rules for certain people is just racism with extra steps.

Every step of the admissions process has been designed to keep me and other individuals underrepresented in medicine, including black and Latino applicants, out of medical school.

So they're only trying to keep out black and Latino people? Why would they not also try to keep out the Asian, middle Eastern and Indian potential medical professionals that saturate the field as well? I mean, if it's wypipo and racism, I'd think they'd want to put Chinaman, dot head and goat herder in their place too, no?

These people are beyond retarded. Progressivism really is mental illness.

That's exactly why Clearance Thomas has no love for "affirmative action." He actually earned his by top performance.

One would think the best way to assist poor people in their preparation for a test to be to advocate for providing financial assistance, not scrapping the test altogether.

Unless they plan on abolishing all standardized tests, the students that no longer have to take MCAT will just get pushed forward a a couple more years before they are faced with even more challenging exams.

I wouldn’t argue for any decrease in merit-based consideration. We probably need to increase it.

WRONG. The entire process is designed to weed out those who likely aren't mentally equipped to be doctors.

If the MCAT requirement is removed, then I would probably not want to see a minority MD who became a doctor AFTER the requirement was lifted.

Sorry, but the reason I go to a doctor is to protect my health, not virtue signal that diversity is important to me (which it is not).

For the record, my regular doctor is a Filipino woman, my dentist is a woman, and both are terrific. The fact that they are women simply isn't important. They came highly recommended, so I followed the recs of people I trust.

This is a foolish assumption that med school won't start handing out grades according to skin color

They must do away with the NFL Combine so the playing field can be leveled to give white guys a chance to make a team. You know? For diversity’s sake.

Wait until we get Universal Health Care and you are assigned one of these quota doctors. They won't have to worry about SS going broke.
