I want to say that I've loved this Ram...but i feel like I might be fooling myself a little...

1. First set of tires were trash. Completely worn before 30,000 miles
2. First brake pads made a terrible racket that I couldn't make stop...tried greasing, resetting...nothing. Replaced @ 12,000 miles and it went away
3. Both front doors have required a little attention
4. Uconnect radio/infotainment is slooooooooooow sometimes. Just turning up the volume typically results in a lag
5. This horseshite exhaust manifold issue is about to cost me a good bit of money. 1,000 per side if I let the dealer do it, probably save 200 per side with my local shop. Still a lot of dollars.

Truck is just over 5 years old with just under 100k. Rides well, tows my stuff well, but i feel like i've had too many nuisances to call it a great buy.

I have gas. Only have maybe 52k miles. I tow a lot and go off road some though. Sank it to the frame in mud the first month I had it.

Gas.

296k miles.

Did all hoses at 200k and valve cover gaskets/plugs.

Oil change every 10k. Oil and filter every 20k. Drain a gallon of trans fluid and refill every 20k. Diffs and transfer case serviced every 100k. Brake pads just coming up on second set of rears. Fronts every 100k or so.

Battery cable terminal at 295k because I didn't clean it when I replaced the battery at 250k.

Front left cat is dying. Will likely go longtube headers and remove at 300k.

Would love to hear your experience with the new crap ones.

My 2022 Paltinum with 16000 miles has been flawless.

ETA: the engine is not new. It’s been in land cruisers overseas for a while.

I always chuckle when people say this

Motherfricker better be flawless.

Coworkers tremor has been in the shop 6x in the last 5 months. And he's okay with that.

It would be on fire in their parking lot.

Seeing as they have only been out two years and the guy has never owned one it's hard to say they are crap. I bought my 2023 with no hesitation. I'm in numerous 2022+/3rd Gen Tundra Facebook groups and half the time the only time people post is to complain, and it's never anything serious. 99% of the people on their that own one, love them. But some guy that's never owned one knows that they're crap. People should definitely listen to him.

You’re right, if it had not been I would have said so though.

ETA: and they only been out about a year. 1st ones were delivered to customers Dec of 21 I believe. I ordered mine in Jan last year and got it in May. Helped me that I know the GM of the Toyota dealership that got me an early allocation.

I've had two Tundras with the 5.7, 09 & 19. Interior room was great, but after having the 19 for a year it just felt dated compared to everything else. I enjoyed the 38 gallon tank, but 15 mpg at best no matter what. The 4.30 gears are great except it has the old 6 speed transmission. In hills get ready for shifting.

I think the perfect Tundra would have been slightly updated exterior and tech/interior upgrades. I moved to a Ram 2500 from the Tundra and then back to a 21 F150 5.0 that has been trouble free for 50k miles and 2 years. Averaging 25k miles a year puts some wear on a truck. The Tundra I put about 28k miles a year on.

This thread is a good example of why its not very useful to listen to the general public on who makes a good truck. Opinions are all over the place and you can read/listen for 10hours and still not be any closer to a conclusion. Its just a shitshow.

I've decided the best place to glean info on vehicles is reputable auto repair shops. They see the same make and years of trucks over and over and over. A caveat is the 4ish year and newer models because they simply don't get those in the shop.

fyi, Toyota seem to come out on top as far as reliability and ease of repair are concerned. And all vehicles aren't made as well as they were 15-20 years ago. Isn't helping the gov mandates fuel economy which pushes manus to turn trucks/cars more into something that resembles spaceships with the technology.

Still in my 2016 tundra. 160k miles. Zero issues. Changed a belt and put gas and oil in it.

It’s not fancy. No bells. No whistles. But it still drives like new.

I have a 19 tundra and had a 16 as well both bought new. Got rid of the 16 with 145,000miles and and have 210,000 on the 19. Have had zero issues, pull an inclosed trailer to Pa several times a year as well as Utah and Minnesota.

Service every 5000 miles and rotate tires the same. Except for someone helping themselves to my cats while in Houston its been a great vehicle.

Get out of the Ram before a lifter goes bad and wipes out your cam.

So you have a 2017 Ram with only 96K miles? Dude just keep it. I have a 2016 Tundra and it’s great but there’s no reason to get rid of a perfectly good Ram. Tundra won’t have any more creature comforts than your Ram either.

I'm probably in most of the same groups. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. It would be disingenuous say that there aren't legitimate concerns with those trucks. Lots of people absolutely love them but there seems to be many many people citing quality control issues with them. Every time someone posts a problem with theirs its met with a gaggle of toyota defenders telling them its an easy fix or something that'll get worked out, despite the fact that they are brand new $60-90k trucks. I love the look and the upgraded features, but dropping that kind of money and having the issues that keep popping up would drive me insane.

This.

Before we switched to Nissan work trucks we had used Chevy work trucks for almost 25 years. Dealt with peeling paint, frequent repairs, etc. Had a Chevy flee account and still got lousy service unless we involved our fleet manager. When he retired our service from Chevy simply died.
