Only 7 pushups per minute for 60 minutes?

Go ahead and give it a try and tell us of your results

sounds somewhat doable if you can have a water break and know to pace yourself. 7 pushups in roughly 10 seconds with a 50 second break in between. Still rough though for a high school kid punishment...imo..

No they can't. Have you seen our population?

Logically though it shouldn’t take you a minute to do 7 push-ups. It should probably take less than 20 seconds honestly which leaves plenty of time for rest. The only real question is how they were performed. When I was in high school you did a push-up on the coaches whistle. You dropped down on the whistle and you held the position until the whistle was blown again. That’s a bit more intense than give me 400 push-ups. Hospitalization seems a bit overboard though.

Let's review how the team captain explained it:
quote:

"Our motto, it’s the number 16. Sixteen ball games to win a championship. We do these workouts and it’s all about discipline. If we get them right, we move on. If not, we do 16 push-ups," the junior said.

It sounds like this dipshit coach had them doing a workout and if anyone failed, the team did 16 pushups. Doing that for an hour is obviously going to lead to compounding failures. He's a moron.

One time when I was about 19 and in the best shape of my life, 5’11” @203lbs, I tried to do 100 push ups without breaking the lean and rest position. It took about 4-5 minutes and everything I had. I was hurting towards the end.

A football player was hospitalized? The Buffalo Bills just cancelled their game.

Do the “that’s not that bad” crew realize that’s not all the exercise they did. Sure in a vacuum by itself the push ups aren’t that bad. But I’m sure they lifted at some point, ran at some point, and practiced at some point. That combined with the push ups and holding out water is a recipe for disaster hence the kids bodies literally breaking down

This does remind me of a team punishment once in the summer. Conditioning, then weight room all upper body. At the time, I was doing 100 pushups daily. But wouldn't you know after a full lifting session, it took every ounce of strength in my body to complete 15 of them bad boys

How much time do they have in athletic class? 7 hours? At most 1 hour if on block. 10/15 to dress, 10/15 to dress back and 60 minutes to work. Most block classes are around 1 hour 30 minutes.

I think it’s pretty clear that people in this thread expect their fatigue level and needed recovery to be the same in minute 48 as it is in minute 5 lmao

Holy hell this take. This is peak OT right here. Let me guess you make 10 million a year and only bang OT 10s as well, right?

7 pushups in a minute is easy. That's not the problem. Doing 7 pushups every minute for 60 minutes will feel like absolute hell.

But you're right, tough guy. Doing 400 pushups is extremely easy. Let's see you video yourself doing it, is that cool?

in the greyskull program we work up doing tons of pushups over the course of a day until you can do 100 in 2 min. and yea i cant do that right now but when i was 15-18 i easily could. hell i could with 8 weeks to train pretty easily.

but know i dont make anywhere near 10 million a year and sure as frick dont even bang ot 7s

im not a billy badass. i was just saying it wasnt that bad total volume/total time under tension wise and i udnerstand it gave them rhabdo and that in and of itself means it was was not good and i already addressed it was pretty much a waste of time.

and im not acting like some billy badass/tough guy, i happen to be certified by a couple different places on training.

the workout was stupid and pretty typical of a sport coach, but total volume wise....should have never caused issues.

now some are saying he withheld water some say he didnt...if he did fire him. if this was on top of a ton of other shite...yea fire him. if this was first day back shite....fire him.

but if this is something they do often....then this should have never caused rhabdo

Did anybody actually read the article?

quote:

At least eight students were hospitalized after the extreme workout

It wasn't one kid that a crazy overprotective mom took to the emergency room. That's 8 kids admitted into the hospital.

Also,

quote:

The alleged incident happened Friday during an eighth-period athletic class

So, in a 8 hour school day that is divided into 8 periods (at least) with lunch that's less than 50 minutes a class. Considering time to change into and out of workout clothes, you are talking about 40 minutes of actual workout time so you are averaging 10 pushups a minute.

In the end, any workout that sends at least 8 kids to the hospital is, by definition, extreme.

That being said, I will enjoy the workout warriors here that post videos of them doing 400 pushups in an hour.

That, and doing an extreme amount of pull-ups, is a great way to get rhabdomyolysis

400 push ups in an hour is very very very stupid

For people in good shape and workout regularly. They can do up to 100 pushups. 400 pushups is an entirely different beast, however. I'd be willing to confidently wager that only elite athletes who specifically train pushups often could knock out 400.

I think you're assuming a lot. You're in better shape than 98% of posters on this board (and Louisianans) and have done many, many, many pushups through the Greyskull lifting program

I also never said 400 pushups in an hour was dangerous. I simply said it's a lot.

Are y'all not realizing this is seven pushups every minute? Meaning you, at most, have 50 seconds to recover after each set? Clearly, muscle fatigue would set in.

shite, after minute 10 you're at 70 pushups with 330 to go. Think about that

maybe...but total volume wise that aint that crazy. i mean look at the 10k kettlebell program people do...a kb swing is way harder on the body than a pushup....people on the H&F board do 10k pushup challenge all the time and dont have a problem.

maybe i assuming way too much that these being athletes should be able to do this. maybe it was first day back from break...i dunno but 400 in an hour isnt some crazy volume wise.

400 pushups in a day is a lot. Anybody that says different can drop and give me 400 and then get back to me.

LOL yes - if you don't think that's hard go try doing 100 push-ups in an hour.

Those people average 333 pushups over the course of a day, not 400 in an hour. Somehow, the time limitation is lost on several posters here. Imagine doing 200 pushups in 30 mins, and then having another 30 mins and 200 pushups to go.

Yes, 400 pushups in an hour is fricking nuts if it's sending 8 kids to the hospital.

I work out a lot and train pretty hard

400 push ups in an hour would have me completely fricked. Rhabo would be on the brink

Only a complete dumbass coach would do this. Did the article say if the kids were having kidney issues? It isn’t just being tired people, this coach likely fricked some kids organs up
