Tastee donuts supposedly has their recipes - I think at the one on transcontinental in Metairie - depending on where you’re at I haven’t gone
Yeah, the one on Clearview Pkwy does. It comes with the old McKenzies sticker on it and everything and tastes just as it did years ago.

I prefer cakes that incorporate real fruit.
La petite sophie by river ridge has one that has strawberries and it is probably my favorite.
Maurice french pastries ponchatoula cake is also very good
Also like kellers and dong phoung
Pouparts has a chantilly king cake i will be trying soon.

To add to those, now that Nelson’s is back, they make a good “donut” style king cake. Also, donut king has a similar that is legit. Outside of LC, Cajun pecan house in Houma is awesome.

McKenzies was the bomb. How they went out of business I will never know.

What’s everyone’s favorites on the Northshore?
I’ve only tried Nonna Randazzo and Mandeville Bake Shop, I found Nonna to be above average but no Manny’s and Mandeville Bake Shop is alright.

Today my 7yr old relayed her CCD message to me. The cake is round to honor the journey that was taken to protect the lord child from the King Heron that wanted to kill him. The sweetness of the cake is meant to provide sustenance during the fasting of lent. The 3 colors of the cake represent faith, justice, and power all in the name of the Lord. On a daily basis my children help remind me of what is truly important in life. Even a “not so good tasting “ king cake is more enjoyable if it is approached with this meaning.
