We’ll be escaping our Wisconsin winter this March as it will be spring break for my oldest.

Any thoughts on a nice beach that’s not too much of a young adult party area?
We went to Sarasota a few years back and loved it, but we’re driving so we’d prefer a shorter trip. something on the panhandle/gulf side?

Cape San Blas or St. George Island if you want an old school Florida beach experience. If you want something modernized, but not huge high rise condos, try Watersound, Alys or Rosemary Beach.

Anywhere in the 30A section will be great.

Look at the beaches on the west coast of Florida. Indian Rocks Beach and around there.

Just be aware that the gulf will be too cold in most of Florida for swimming.

One idea is the San Destin Hilton as they have some heated pools and the Baytown Wharf area is very close and is fun for kids as well as other stuff in the area.

Cape San Blas is great if you don’t plan on going out much and just beach although nice places have gotten crazy.

Not for people from Wisconsin.

Water temps will be in upper 60s. Air Temps around 80. Like Wisconsin summer.

30A just seems miserable to me with small kids. I would want something directly on the beach without the need of a golf cart.

I prefer Navarre over Destin.

A lot of these recs are great for young adults and older, but if you need to keep kids entertained, with amusement parks, etc., I would look at the Orange Beach-Perdido areas-the Alabama-Florida border.

Kids can’t be out on the beach all day, and there are a lot of things for them to do in that area.

Exactly

It's paradise for Canadian snowbirds.

Yes! 30A/Watercolor is a merit badge for status seeking wives, not a destination for relaxation.

The Alabama coast is much more relaxed, cheaper, and gives you access to more beachfront from your townhouse/condo than I got at Watercolor.

Unless you're driving, it seems like it'd be easier to just fly to Cancun than it would be to deal with trying to fly into that part of the gulf coast connecting in DFW/IAH/ATL, then renting a car when you land at Panama City Beach, and other similar miniature airports.

Another fantastic option a little bit farther away is Roatan, Honduras. Took my son there before he was 2, direct flight from Houston, inexpensive, beautiful, and safe (unlike the rest of the country.) Easier than flying into Liberia in Costa Rica, and driving to either coast.

I really enjoyed Okaloosa Island when my daughter was little, staying close to the base side. It was really low key over there and didn’t seem as packed.
