Here's a JD question for the Rant (I didn't want to start a separate thread given that there are so many already):

Do you think that JD could excel at another position? I'm thinking RB because we are kinda thin there and he is definitely a gifted runner. Could he be SEC quality and maybe even draftable if he played next year at s uch a position?

He would NOT be a good RB at this level. He runs upright and has a lean build. He’s a long strider who needs a little room to get to full speed. None of those are traits of an elite back, even a smaller one.

Speaking hypothetically, because Daniels wouldn’t stay here and switch positions, he could maybe be a good WR if he had good hands beyond catching snaps and playing mesh points on RPOs and Zone Reads and can run routes.

but with several months to work on fine-tuning JD with receivers, it could make for a great season.

So no QB competition again next year?

Same as this year

Hopefully the WRs take on a summer of 10k catches with JD.
Wont help unless there's a competent WR Coach there.

Way too many "Drops" this season, just like in 20 and 21.

Is that due to weak position coaching or the QB not being able to throw a catchable ball? (Maybe a combination of both)

Not too many drops in 2019 when Brady was working the WR's.

20, 21 and 22.

It's not Rocket Science.

WR drops are usually caused by a lack of concentration, coupled with poor technique, sometimes coupled with the QB throwing a wobbly and inaccurate ball.

So which one is it currently at LSU?

Many "Great Recruiter Rah Rah WR Coaches" are very weak tech coaching their position. When the dropsies continue all season unabated, it's always partly due to poor coaching to some extent.

These "Rah Rah" guys can bring all the talent to campus and then have no clue how to make maximum use of the talent........

What about the career arcs of Max Dugan, hendon Hooker or Michael Penix

Duggan made his jump due to new HC Sonny Dykes' system.

Hooker made his jump at Tenn with Heupel's offense his first season at Tenn. 31/3 TD/INT last season at Tenn followed by 27/2 this season.

Pennix transferred from Indiana to a more talented and modern Washington team and blew up year 1.

Nix was same with a better suited Oregon offense and a year 1 leap.

Travis is the only one with a year 2, same team, same HC jump. He'd be the most comparable if JD makes a significant improvement as a passer in year 2 at LSU.

This is really hilarious. We are probably the only fanbase that returns a QB and double digit starters from a SECCG team…and are negative about our teams improvement (or hopes for it). I guarantee Saban would take JD over milroe, Napier would take him over whoever they have. Shoot maybe only two teams in the conference wouldn’t take him. Y’all gotta be drunk on this fine New Years

But Tennessee wasn’t prolific like they were this year. Y’all moving the goal post. JD was better overall than hooker in his first year

This is bull shite. JD should have improved exponentially coming from AZ to LSU. Much more talent all around him. Didn’t JD have 3K yards one year at AZ St? The receivers are considerably better.

We could use better guards and center and maybe better blocking schemes for the pass and run. We have 6 running backs with recruits. They all ar talented enough but you can’t keep bashing into your offensive linemen and defenders because there is no seam. A running game would help JD but not enough to make him elite.

Maybe...but if JD takes a big cheap shot by a fatass cocky lineman and then proceeds to ball out for the rest of the game...I might get some funny feelings.

I believe the point is all those QBs got better in year 3 or 4, not in the jump from 1 to 2. To say that JD can't improve because he's "hit his ceiling" I find a little lazy.

They all showed consistent improvement each year and had way better 3rd/4th years than JD from a passing standpoint. JD’s passing stats are actually on par with his freshman year. That is it. He hasn’t really improved on that area despite having way more talent around him.

Again, stats are an easy way to fool yourself into believing something without considering context or how things came to be.

Thanks for giving a considered and thought-out answer to the question. I still want to think that he could do well at RB or another position, but you make good points.

If Jayden Daniels makes half the improvement that Joe Burrow made in the offseason between 2018 & 2019, LSU will be a contender for the playoff.

The future is bright.

Yes. Yes he did. It was his first year when he had a WR who was picked in the First Round of the NFL draft and one who was picked a year later in the Draft. But don’t let facts get in the way or anything.
