We return a ton of experience in this system next year I think we’ll be a lot more ready
Posted on 12/31/22 at 11:46 am to cajuntiger1010
LSU should have parted ways with Verge long ago.
Except for the three times now LSU’s been fricked by a team playing a Week 0 game before they played LSU.

Let's ask BK since he has to answer for the opening game losses, which more often than not, make the playoffs more of an uphill climb.
Not necessarily especially when the playoffs expand. You just take care of business in conference and that game wouldn’t matter.

How does he still have a job?!?
Posted on 12/31/22 at 11:49 am to The Boat
He’s about the last holdover from our dysfunctional arse, incompetent FKing/Alleva administration and their resulting coaching staffs. They need to put his LSU career in a box and float it down the river

Only thing I want to read about Verge is he’s been fired. F’him

Nothing but deflection from Verge....he is in charge of scheduling/contracts and he SCREWED up 2 times in a row !
The vast majority of coaches will tell you that their teams see the most IMPROVEMENT from game 1 to game 2 !
Advice to Verge...let a contract expert take care of future negotiations !!

Verge can’t even convince his kids to play for LSU. He sucks.
This is half true. Verge’s wife was the one pushing the kids away from LSU after the Title IX lawsuits and what not. Verge, the highest-ranking black man in the LSU Athletic Department, was the proverbial fall man—reason being was that LSU was NOT going to fire the highest-ranking black man in the Athletic Department, so they suspended him without pay.

Don’t forget about UCLA in 2021…

The "We're LSU" comment is stupid and arrogant.

When you have new staff and offense and defense with young players it absolutely makes a difference.

We could not have played a week 0 game in 2022. There was no one left for us to play. And, we cannot, by contract, control who, when, or where our opponents play.
Verge has very FEW ORIGINAL THOUGHTS, SO WHAT HE SAID PROBABLY WAS A REPEAT OF WHAT HE WAS TOLD BY bk OR WHOEVER.

Hell, doesn’t this board remember that over the past 20 years, we’ve opened with :
Miami
BYU
Wisconsin (twice)
TCU
Oregon
North Carolina
Washington
Arizona State
Oregon State
Va Tech

What a dumb statement. “We are LSU.” As if we are somehow different and special from all the other elite teams in the NCAA.
Look, Verge, I don’t expect anything from our athletic leadership that I would not expect from any other top-organization. And that means I expect you to leverage every single advantage possible to help us win every single week, no matter how small that advantage might be.
To have the attitude that certain advantages don’t matter is not only strategically unsound… it is very lazy.

My whole lifetime, I have heard coaches say
That the biggest improvement is between week one and week two. If that is true, then Verge is full of crap. Of course, we could beat a small school with no problem, but the point is getting the kinks worked out so you don’t make a bunch of mistakes against the good school that you’re playing the next week.

There should be two “preseason” games, which do not count toward the regular season record. Focus on your freshman and transfers. The D3 schools and mid majors get paid a few dollars, the team has a chance to improve a little bit before the actual season starts. You’ve increased the total amount of games, which increases ticket revenue, and you have a path to completely do away with bullshite cupcake games in a regular season of college football. And these games do not count toward eligibility for redshirt
For good measure, I’ll also add that there should only be one opportunity to transfer schools, and it should only be after at least two years of enrollment at the initially decided institution (redshirt or not)

It’s a VERY small number of teams that even can do it. Week zero games are related to the “Hawaii Rule” whereby any team that travels to Hawaii for a game is permitted to schedule a 13th game during week zero. This year, Duquesne played at Hawaii in week 4 so they were allowed to schedule a week zero game (vs Florida State).
As many times as it has been discussed here, it amazes me that there are some that still don’t understand how week 0 games work.

You can apply for an exemption like Miami and Florida did a couple years ago too or if you have an extreme travel game, like playing in Ireland, doesn’t just have to involve Hawaii.
But Verge just issuing a blanket refusal is stupid. Par for the course for him.

I am not either. Further degrades the season ticket value… If we are worried about Wk zero games then stipulate in the season opener tv contract that our opponent cant have one either.
