It really didn't. New staff, new qb, and a new secondary did. Playing a power 5 team cost us.

Pathetic is needing a week zero game which only a few teams get to do anyway.

We lost because we couldn’t play special teams and fsu was a good team, Not because of week 0

No one knows if we would have won or not, but the team that beat us had a game and we did not.

Yes, we made mistakes versus a good team, but would we have done better if we had already played?

It was a one point loss. It may have been the difference.

Verge is a dipshit. On what planet does playing week 0 not give you an advantage over an opponent that didn’t play?

For a multitude of reasons, why is this POS still employed at LSU?

It’s a VERY small number of teams that even can do it.

Week zero games are related to the “Hawaii Rule” whereby any team that travels to Hawaii for a game is permitted to schedule a 13th game during week zero.

This year, Duquesne played at Hawaii in week 4 so they were allowed to schedule a week zero game (vs Florida State).

Can we contractually prohibit a team from adding a week zero game as part of the agreement to play them ?

Yall quit crying about have a week zero game! We've never had a week 0 game to warm up for Oregon or any of the other big time week 1 matchups we've had over the yrs. 1st yr of a new coach and staff, losses happen. Get over it

Verge shouldn’t have a job at LSU. Guy is expired and has been for sometime now!
Haven't you heard? the University of Louisiana State University is now one of the SJW Champions of the Country.

There's no way CRTate is going to allow Woodward to fire the very special and privileged X-LSU football player Deputy Athletic Director, ( ) no matter how incompetent he is. (These ridiculous statements concerning Week O games are just further evidence)

"Morial" is way past his expiration date and should have been terminated from LSU years ago. (A lot like Nikki Fargas was kept around way too long after her expiration date)

Nonsense like this is why many Alums (Myself) and long time die-hard fans are no longer giving a single dime to the University or its Athletic Programs.......

What. A. Pathetic. Response.

Yup, Verge out out his IQ of about 90 with that response. We’ve been burned twice (Va Tech circa 2002) this century with opponents week 0 games.

If there was no merit, why do our opponents schedule them?

Neither did our opponents. It’s a pretty big advantage to play a game when your opponent hasn’t played at all. No coincidence we’ve looked out classed in back to back years under these circumstances.

Playing the game definitely helps more than it hurts but I don’t think it makes that big of a difference. I don’t believe LSU lost to Florida State because they played a game first. If you look at how almost every game LSU played this season the game script was almost exactly what it was in that game.

Defense got off to a slow start then started to shut them down.
Offense got off to a slow start then started moving the ball in the second half.
Special Teams was awful.

I mean it really depend on the situation. We had essentially a brand new team this year with a brand new QB so imo it definitely matters.

I don’t think next season would be as crucial bc we return essentially our entire offense.

Yeah, let's let Verge determined this sort of thing. Let's ask BK since he has to answer for the opening game losses, which more often than not, make the playoffs more of an uphill climb.
Let's just be as prepared as our opponent if we are going to play a top team first game every year. This is just plain common sense.
I am confident LSU doesn't make all the ST errors it did to lose the FSU game if we would have played a game before FSU. Players learn the most in the first game of the season, under the gun. LSU needs that easy opening game every year imo.
