I am visiting family in a rural Midwest town. When I go thru a drive thru, I am treated like a customer and appreciated. I was asked 3 times in Wal Mart if they could help me find something. There is definitely a huge difference in attitude.

The ignorance of Louisiana is never more evident than when you’ve been on a road trip and get back home
People around here are ignorant as hell and they’re proud of it.. just look at all the people on TD bragging about not giving a f*** about being ignorant on the driving laws (hazards in the rain and left lane tomfoolery)
It’s absolutely mind blowing that a whole state can be this willfully ignorant

I left Louisiana and was pleasantly surprised by the competence at grocery stores. Everyone wants your business and they’re happy to help.

Whenever I leave the state I’m absolutely blown away by how I’m treated at fast food establishments
You go from being a nuisance to someone who is treated with respect

it's not because of the government or the crime.. it's just because even business can't do anything right.
These things are all related. Businesses cannot do anything right because our government and crime has ran all the good business owners and employees off to other states.

It is promoted in many communities in LA. Get on the government payroll. Be a community leader. Running CATS or Council on Aging is the dream. Everyday a rapper I have never heard of is shot. DSLD is Louisiana's #1 company every year. Fastest growing is DR Horton.

i'm always amazed at how coherent service/retail workers are when on vacation out of this shithole state
Yep, we are all from Lake Charles and we love LA as much as the next guy but when we come back to visit the ineptitude of the workers is sad.
I'd say over 50% of our orders at restaurants are wrong and the people taking them look pretty sketchy. And in Lake Charles it's gotten even worse with the recent hurricanes and lack of workers.
Last time we were in town I remember having to write down my order at a Checkers because the girl with the 40 IQ couldn't understand that I wanted a burger with no pickles and mustard. It was like talking to a 4-year-old.

I don't mind the self checkout if I have 4 items but if you have 50 it sucks.
The problem is that the people checking out their own groceries are just as incompetent as the cashiers would be

Jesus Christ.
I can't even imagine the circumstances where, as a man, I could write such a post.
Who shite in your soy latte this morning?

Let's not push it.
You're still dealing with the dregs of society.

Meh, I start to miss black folk after a few days. Turns out the laughing and cutting up that infuriates me while waiting to pay for a coke at the gas station is the very thing I miss after a week in colorado.

I do the same thing. We have a WM Neighborhood Market close to us (RIP Kroger) and it's basically convenience store distance. Go multiple times a week.

Conventional wisdom is that areas with populations from northern and western Europe and with protestant backgrounds are more organized but less fun loving than areas with populations from southern and eastern Europe with Catholic backgrounds.
There are of course other demographic factors, but I'll leave that for others to discuss.
Which type of society is preferable is, I would think, an individual decision.

This is why Louisiana is ultimately unsustainable and the only viable option longterm is to leave. The future is not bright for this shithole. We let it get too fricked up and now there's no way to correct it.
We're fighting to win battles, and that can probably keep you here another 10-15 years but we've already lost the war.

Try 6-8 months (and not even in Louisiana)

We can go to chain pharmacy that has one employee working and half of their shelves empty, or we can go to the local pharmacy that's only open bankers hours and charges 3x as much.
We can go to the chain grocery store with all self-checkout lanes, or we can go to the local grocery store with one cashier who is on her phone the entire time.

While i agree all of this is bullshite, its common everywhere. it fricking sucks and pisses me off.

you just described 96% of the country.
Posted on 11/29/22 at 10:16 am to Methuselah
The northeast is full of southern and Eastern Europeans. The south is full of anglos and other northern or Western Europeans.
I definitely don’t think the northeast is more “fun loving”
