San Antonio folks are geniuses. They turned a ditch into a major tourist attraction.

Baton Rouge, Shreveport, etc. have real damned rivers and have not done jack shite with them.

Little Rock puts its river to good use, with great paved trails, pedestrian bridges, AA ballpark, amphitheater, soccer fields, etc. along the river. Other river towns should go there and be ashamed of how little they have done to take advantage of their rivers.

It doesn't smell like piss and regret like the FQ, though.

You are so wrong, it's embarrassing. If you don't go to the Alamo and spend time there reading about the men from all over who died there, you've missed a major thing.

Then go out to some of the churches that survive as they once were, and enjoy the peaceful feeling.

Also trips down to some of the battlefields might fill out a bit of history overlooked in some history books.

I've never been to the SA Riverwalk and have no desire to go but all the YouTube videos show a stagnant dirty canal. Looks like a canal you'd seen in Jefferson or Orleans Parishes with a strip mall built up along their banks.

Every tourist attraction is a dump.

If the masses like it, it's probably trashy and unfulfilling.

Iron Rattler is an awesome roller coaster. Speed limit is 80 just west of SA on I-10.

Burnt Bean BBQ not too far either.

SA is the opposite of nola.

Nola is great to visit but living there can be rough.

San Antonio doesn't have much to draw in tourists but it's a solid place to live, work and raise a family.

San Antonio's primary attraction, their Riverwalk, really is a quarter mile of ultra-condensed Mickey Mouse horse shite

The river walk is more than 3 miles long. Let me guess, you haven’t seen it in 20-30 years?

Used to live by SA and no locals go downtown

People that don’t live in suburban hell (much of San Antonio) do.

SA is relatively safe for a very large city with some beautiful neighborhoods that rival anywhere in the state. The city is bigger than Dallas in both population and size

That is very misleading. The metropolitan area is way smaller. Most of Dallas lives in the suburbs

Agree about it being safe. It is pretty much safer than any city it’s size in America. I will let y’all ponder on why that is…

The only place interesting on the River Walk is the old Esquire Tavern (which can be reached from street level as well as stairs up from the “river”). Really great bar and the food is decent. Everything else is tourist crap.

It’s always a fun weekend trip. Anything more than a couple nights gets old.

Agreed. Wife and I stayed for a few nights a couple years ago. Had a great time doing touristy stuff, exploring caves, eating at good restaurants, and doing a tour of all the missions.

So many posters in this thread don’t know how to have a good time. Oh no, fat people on the River Walk!!! Better run to TD and tell everyone about it.

Sure, but imagine saving up money to vacation in San Antonio
I haven't been to that area in half a decade but I enjoyed New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Schlitterbahn, Hill Country, and few spots inside of San Antonio. Not a bad place for a 4 day weekend type of vacation.
