Listening to an FSU Podcast

The are breaking down the game and it is interesting to hear how outsiders view our team. They are mostly fair and aren't beating their chest or anything. their basic thoughts:
1) overall our team is inexperienced and/or transfers. They hope this will create issues.
2) only 2 position groups they feel at a disadvantage is DL and WR. They think the game will come down to whether or not they can create some sort of running game and making sure Kayshon doesn't go for 80 yards on any particular play. Hope is that they can get the DL to over pursue and let their RBs find cutbacks.
3) Our OL is very inexperienced and a bunch of guys are playing out of position (Frazier and Dellinger).
4) Lbers don't scare them and the secondary is all transfers that were average at best at their previous stops.
5) RBs are average. No Emery and no Fournette type back.
6) QB is either a RS freshman or a transfer that doesn't have much chemistry with the WRs.
7) They think that LSU is ripe for the picking if FSU can limit the advantage LSU has at DL and WR.
I obviously don't agree with all of their points but it is interesting to hear. They really only talked about LSU during the podcast but I did notice they never mentioned where they thought FSU had the advantage.
My question would be if LSU has 2 position advantages and its a push across the board elsewhere then what's the path for FSU to win?
If they keep safeties back to limit Kayshon then how do they stop the run and stop Nabers and Bech from carving you up underneath?
If you max protect to stop the DL, can you get open with limited route runners?
How does your OL move our DL to run the ball?

One thing that always seems to get ignored in peoples analysis is the fact that a top 5 coach in football in Kelly is going against a guy that no one was sold would even be retained last year. Seems like quite a large advantage.
Also go look at FSU’s recruiting classes the last 3 years and try to sell me we’re only more talented in two position groups.
Edit: Just because Norvel had success in one game (still lost) doesn’t change the fact that coaching is an advantage. Having Nick Saban is still an advantage against Jimbo Fisher, just like Brian Kelly and his 30 years of success is an advantage against the guy that lost to Jacksonville State the week after losing to Brian’s team. And that was my only point. That when analyzing a matchup you have to consider coaching just like anything else.

Interesting how they try to rationalize things that any other fan will know just aren’t true. Makes you realize how we may do that in a sense.

a DL advantage is huge tho. That's where games are won and lost. duquesene actually made some plays on FSU's OL but they couldn't tackle. I think FSU will try to run right at us early and realize that its not happening and have to pivot.

Thank you for doing the lords work so I don't have to

You mean the team with the same coach that took Kelly’s team into overtime last season and narrowly lost?

to be fair, they seem to be the equivalent of Hold that Podcast so they can't go in there and just say they are gonna get toasted even if they feel that way. They have to look at it and say "Maybe if we do X, Y, and Z we can win." their audience doesn't want to hear doom and gloom.

They mentioned that they played well against the 11 win ND team last year coached by Kelly. They ran for like 260 yards in that game.

Isn't half of their team transfers? If true, one game against Duq does not magically give great chemistry. So their opinion of LSU's transfer chemistry issue is the same as their own.

I don't think so. They didn't even run right at Duquenes. Their runs all hit off tackle with the option to cut back inside or bounce it depending on how the blocks shape up. The best attributes that their main RB (Ward) possesses is patience and quickness. He's calm and collected as he approaches the LOS and then explodes through a hole when he sees it.
The obvious counter for this is to have our DL beat their blocks and not give him the option to sit back there until a lane opens up.

I think they were more or less looking for chinks in the armor more than complete analysis. They view it as a possible contribution to an FSU victory.

I mean they aren't necessarily wrong with some of their points, but that doesn't mean they actually have an advantage. For example, they say are LB's are average. That may very well be true, but if our LB's are average, what do they consider theirs? They can argue that we aren't great at some positions sure, but that doesn't mean that they are better than us.

Sounds like a very biased perspective to be honest.

But that was a really good run down of what they are saying, none of which is terribly off base.
Thanks

They're in for a rude awakening with Goodwin. Telling you that right now. It's fair to say that now based on production but this is your starter for a reason. He has deceptive speed but he's compact in power. I'm surprised they didn't start him last year as a true freshman.

That guy no one was sold would be retained last year took our top 5 coach into overtime just last year. And that was a pretty good Notre Dame team and Florida State is better this year. His team seemed pretty well coached Saturday, but lacking the crazy athletic skill positions on both sides of the ball that the FSU teams of 20-30 years ago had. Their RBs are really good, though. The previous poster asked what they think their path to victory would be is simple: run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, and try to hit on some big play actions down the field, while holding our RBs in check and getting our QBs in lots of 2nd and 3rd and longs.
I don’t think they’ll do it—I think in the end we’re just too talented and are gonna be too well prepared/coached, but their points in the OP seem reasonable from an FSU fang’s perspective.

Key to the game is get up on them early and get them out of their first run offense.

We’ll see. I’d be a lot more confident if we had Dave Aranda and Jeff Grimes, who I don’t think could have turned down the kind of money we were dishing out.
