The flooding in Jackson MS (where some people are escaping the catastrophic flooding by wading out) is doubtless going to flood some very expensive battery compartments.

Can those cars be salvaged or will then short themselves into oblivion?

The batteries are sealed. But water seems to find a way.
I've seen YouTube videos were some flooded tesla motors and batteries were reused but the interiors being synthetic leather and all get wrecked badly and total the car.

I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject but I think Teslas withstand flooding much better than ICEs because the batteries and electrical components are sealed.

There are some videos of Teslas fordging water.

Would imagine they would survive, but water will eventually wreck any electrical components on a flooded car.

That's why you never buy a flooded damaged car.

I've always heard that immersion plays hell on the electrical system of any vehicle, gas or electric, and you will never get it completely straightened out.

Items that are powered will face a lot of problems. Sensors, relays, non-weatherpak sockets and instruments can be effected as well as interior carpet and upholstery. Near the coast, salt water will add more issues. Bottomline, it's a flood car.

If they file a claim the title should reflect flood damaged. The rest will be up for sale as 'mint, like new'

Become expensive piles of junk, that are horrible for environment, and probably polluted the water while sitting there

These floods look catastrophic on the news.....but this shite happens every year and covers a relatively small area.

The only parts flooding are houses in Pearl along the Pearl river in a flood plain(Shouldn't have a house there anyways)....and some shite hole ghettos in downtown Jackson close to the Pearl River.

They seem to take the water better than ICE but in no way is it good for them

At worse... those cars will be no worse off than a flooded ICE car.

At best... the engine and battery may be salvageable and all other components are ruined.

same thing that happens to regular cars? Flooded and considered a total loss by the insurance.

Is it supposed to be different?

It's not the powertrain or electrical systems as much as the resulting mold and mildew that does any vehicle in when it gets flooded. Unless you have an old diesel in a vehicle with a snorkel and stripped out interior, it's never going to be the same again.
