Old Fashioned Hamburgers

I read a thread on social media about a place that was on Plank road back in the day. It was called Chuck Wagon. There was also a Government street location as well. Looks like it was popular during the 40s and 50s as far as I can tell.
But a lot of the older people in the thread raved about their hamburgers. My question is, what made these hamburgers so good? Was it the pure beef? Maybe the size of the patty?
What was so different back then say compared to Denham Patty or Mikes Sports Bar?

What made hamburgers so memorable to these old timers?

Are you claiming those as good burger places?

Probably a combination of limited options and nostalgia

Well Denham Patty beats the shite out of a fast-food place

I'm amazed sometimes by what the locals rave about. I think a lot of it is what you grew up on.

Nostalgia. But I'm sure most used fresh beef and many probably ground the beef themselves.

I used to love the burgers at a place called Gibsons in the 80s as a kid. It was on Winbourne. I wouldn't risk my life for a burger now though

nothing really made them better except the beef was a good quality and better than what many restruants use today.
both nothing special about them other than that.

Was the beef a good quality? Not saying it wasn’t but I can’t answer if it was. Steroids have been used in beef since the 50s. I don’t know the history of the genetics from the 50s, so I don’t know if that has changed much. Feeding livestock has changed, maybe for the better or the maybe the worst?
Fun fact and sort of off topic: genetics has been a big part of the beef industry forever. Breeders want to breed specific animals for specific traits. Genetics has been used to control many traits, such as the size of the cows, the amount of fat, the amount of muscle, healthiness of the cow, etc.

The food board is dumb sometimes. Those are both solid burgers

Well yes and no. Those two came to mind because I get a decent hamburger at them. Also James grill has a good one (in my opinion). I'm just wondering if the hamburgers "back then" truly were "better" and if so, why? And I'm open to suggestions for a place to get really good hamburgers if Denham Patty and Big Mikes are not....what you got?

I agree with others that nostalgia plays a big role, but I also think the quality of all the ingredients across the board were better back then. Nowadays all your meats are so juiced up on steriods and growth hormones, your produce is all GMO produced, etc. I think food quality overall has gone down over the years.

I think it's probably just the opposite.

Nobody ever said “That was the best burger, the tomato was so good.”
