After an assistant manager got stabbed, federal regulators have fined the owner of Baton Rouge B-Quik gas stations and Benny's car washes $17,403, saying the businesses didn't do enough to protect employees from violence.
In the Feb. 6 stabbing at a Greenwell Springs gas station, a Baton Rouge firefighter rushed into the store with a pistol, but the attacker wrestled him to the ground. The attacker has since been found mentally unfit to stand trial.
Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration say the business failed to protect employees from workplace violence

"With regard to workplace violence, OSHA has identified certain industries and tasks that place employees at increased risk," said Juan Rodriguez, an OSHA spokesman. "When an employer operates a location in a high crime area and there have been previous incidents of threats at the location, employers must take precautions and train employees."
Those precautions include actions like adding security features, creating written safety plans and implementing training for workers, OSHA said.
The fine and warnings from federal regulators come as Baton Rouge experiences a record-breaking wave of murders — 2021 was the deadliest year on record, and 2022 is currently on pace to be the second-deadliest, according to Advocate records.

Attorneys will use the OSHA deficiency and findings to sue a business into the ground for negligence.
Round and round, round and round I get around.

If an attacker broke into an OSHA office and stabbed the investigators for that area, who would investigate for any potential OSHA violations?
Yes. I had 2ish tanqerays at lunch

And I can guarantee you the second paragraph of the OSHA stabbing plan will have language requiring 100% tie off for all potential stabbing victims.

That's probably less than the lawsuit if the clerk had shot the perp. Damed if you do. Dated if you don't. We need a Purge Night like in the movie.

Isn’t it part of the businesses responsibility to take certain measures to keep the workplace safe?
quote:sounds like the employer was aware of some steps to meet basic requirements of safety for their employees. fricked around and found out
"When an employer operates a location in a high crime area and there have been previous incidents of threats at the location, employers must take precautions and train employees." Those precautions include actions like adding security features, creating written safety plans and implementing training for workers, OSHA said.
