Please explain your reasoning for this belief.

I don't think anyone does. Is this a gotcha question? We are a Republic, which the federal government loves to forget.

We don’t it’s a constitutional republic.

You should have paid attention during civics in high schools.

We are a republic with power of the people and our elected representatives.

The left conveniently forgets that we are a constitutional republic in order to further their agenda via mobb rule...AKA democracy

The word "democracy" does not exist in the Constitution or any states Constitution for that matter.
But even if we were supposed to be the "muh democracy" the left screams about. We aren't even that either, we are closer to an oligarchy ran by an administrative state with the illusion of "democracy".

Victor Davis Hanson calls it a "radical democracy"
"Well, I don’t think we’re a republic anymore. I would say we're in a transition to a radical democracy, and by that I mean that what anybody wants to do on any given day, if they have power or the votes, they do it. So, we don’t respect immigration law. People in the administration want to get rid of it and make the border open, they do it. If you want to have a warrant for a particular FBI operation, you can find a judge and you do it. So what I’m getting at, Mark, is if you have an agenda and you feel you have elected power, you don’t respect any guardrails or prohibitions that constitutional republic set up to protect the abuse of power. So, on any given day, this administration can do what they want and that's how they operate. I mean, to use an ancient example, they want to kill Socrates on Monday, they do it and say it's legal.”

America was a Constitutional Republic Representative Form of Government. I have long believed we have moved away from that and slid into a quasi-Democratic-Socialist Union of States. Some states more, others less.
Clearly, the communists lurking in the shadows of this Biden administration have pushed the throttle full forward in their attempt to implement marxism. I can sense their commie mode of operation in this "RAID" of President Trump's residence.
Donald J. Trump and his legions of supporters are in the way.
They comin.

We live under the illegitimate rule of an Oligarchy that is controlled by the Globalist Radical Left.

This reminds me of a commercial I saw when my kids were watching SpongeBob.
Someone went around the streets asking adults what kind of government we have. They all said democracy. It took a teenage girl to finally say it was republic.

I’m beginning to think we live in a democracy because democrats keep telling me everyone I agree with is a threat to it.

Plutocracy that conspires to convince the general public that they have a choice.

democracy: another word that has become useless because we can't agree what it means.

I never did.
Democracy is not found in either the DOI or the Constitution.
The Founders rejected the form of government, outright.

I do. It’s a little more complicated than that, because we were never meant to live in a straight up Democracy. Instead, we are a Democratic Republic.
But if I get your drift, that the way people vote doesn’t matter anymore, I disagree with that. If Trump had gotten more than 47% of the vote he would have won. He beat Hillary Clinton in the Electoral College, in spite of being beaten badly in the popular vote.
Now, Democrats have plenty of reason to think our democracy is flawed, having won the popular vote twice recently, yet lost the election.

Arthur Jensen to Howard Beale (Network, 1976):
"There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon.
Those are the nations of the world today."

The democrats and elites want us to believe we live in a democracy so that they can rule like emperors over the mob. Much harder to control a republic

When the left/globalists scream about "democracy", it's a false reality. They're actually decrying the shift away from their march toward curated totalitarianism that benefits them, exclusively.
