Evinrude motor

didnt evinrude go out of business?

you better make sure you can still be able to get parts for it in the next few years, when warehouse inventory runs out, because they arent in business any more

FIL bought one still under warranty. He had a problem that is technically under warranty. Problem is there are no parts to do the repair. He had to get rid of it and got a merc.

Buddy has one and I rode with him to the West Bank to get it worked on supposedly that’s the only dealer in the state.
Was BSing with the owners and what they said was parts was almost impossible to get and they didn’t even know when or if they would get some parts.
I wouldn’t do it if I was you.

I have an ETEC it's a great motor I really like it. However there is no more Evinrude it's gone there is no more support or warranty (mine is supposed to still be under warranty).

My trim motor went out and it took 6 weeks to find a new one. When the motor runs which it has for 9 years it has great hole shot and is a very nice motor. However the lack of company support and difficulty in finding parts greatly outweighs the plusses of the motor.

I have one that needed work three years. They said parts were hard to find then and finally got it fixed but said they could not work on it in the future. Do not buy it. Keep looking.

Bombardier just stopped making the engines. I have read there will still be at least some support and parts. It's not the same as if the company ceased to exist.

I dont think thats accurate. BRP is still warranting the engines and I THINK still training techs. I have a 200HO etech and I love the damn thing. It's a monster of an engine and would ALMOST run with my friends 250 optimax pro xs on the same hull.

That said, I would be looking to get a heavy discount on the boat because of the evinrude. It sucks for us rude owners, but that's the reality of it. 5 years from now, they're going to be worthless. There won't be techs and probably won't be parts.

That's not entirely accurate. It's more like Merc jumped in in a different manner:

quote:

Following BRP’s decision to discontinue E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines, the company has signed an agreement with market leader Mercury Marine to support boat packages and continue to supply outboard engines to their boat brands. BRP says they will continue to supply customers and dealer network service parts and will honor manufacturer limited warranties, plus offer select programs to manage inventory.

Unless the boat is priced as if it does have an engine then walk away. A boat is a pain in the arse as it is, no reason to add that particular problem into the eqation.

Well the evinrude guys do have some semblance of leverage right now in that any 200+hp running outboard in good shape is worth something. A low hours 250 etech is hardly worthless. It's just not worth what a low hours F250 Yamaha is worth.

I wouldn't buy an evinrude today. If the boat is priced at a HUGE discount, like the hull without motor price then sure. Maybe you get a season, maybe you get a few, but plan to repower but you need to treat it like that motor is an anchor the day you buy it.

You could very likely get a few good years from it if it's decent hours on it, but I'd be putting money into a savings account to repower it when something does go wrong. Sold a boat with a blown lower unit on the Evinrude on it and the guy had to buy another blown Evinrude to get the lower unit, crazy stuff.
