The ones that were Suzuki and had an Evinrude sticker were even better.

Yeah, I used to really like the ETECs on the boats I used to run at a previous job, and those got a lot of pretty hard use.
Shame they will be a thing of the past.

I had two "old school" (carbureted, pre-computer) OMC outboards in the "old days." One was a 70 hp Johnson that is still my favorite engine ever.
The other was a 140 hp Evinrude - was the absolute worst POS I have ever owned (or known of). Cost me a not-so-small fortune in repairs and rebuilds. Will never own anything that says Evinrude on it.
Been running Mercurys for the past 20+ years. Won't be changing to anything else. They seem to "get it right" when they introduce a new line of engines (I'm specifically referring to their Optimax and their four-stroke engines.)
Any engine of any design can have a problem. But statistically, when dealing with large (150 hp and bigger) outboards, it's hard to beat a Mercury for reliability.

Back in the day they were great. We had a 90's 90hp Johnson that probably had 2000 hours on it before we ever took the cowling off. Lots of really old ones still running at our camp.
Once the FICT thing happened it kinda went downhill from there. The etech and G2 etech were extremely good engines.
I'm sure it's gonna cost me big one day but for right now, I REALLY like my HO etech

Etec’s and OMC era Evinrude’s I had were good.
I sold my last etec right before Bombardier announced they were done making Evinrude’s.
What did it for me was trying to get basic engine specific maintenance items or finding a service center.

I have a ETEC G2. Good motor but I do worry about warranty support.
