“We are excited about the opportunity to present this new logo,” LSU Director of Athletics Skip Bertman said. “I congratulate the committee for this design. I think our new logo is outstanding.”

Emmert let Dean save face and hired Saban himself. Saban would not have been at LSU without Emmert getting involved. That is simply the truth.

EVERY University President have played a role in EVERY hire. Especially all of the ones Woodward has done. Broadhead did it all by himself, I can tell you that from dealing with the AD a bunch during that time.

Broadhead was much better than generally given credit for.
He was a PR nightmare and butted head with the board on a regular basis. He was generally right, but he needed to communicate better with the board so that they understood the vision. The bad relationship caused lots of other problems and made him not as effective as he should have been.

Hey DBG IDGAF what LM`s record was we all knew LM was a goomba.NS was and still is a generational coach. If Skip makes that decision we would be ALA.and would have won 8 titles by now.Short term criticism leads to long term success.
this is total nonsense. LSU football was becoming a monster by the end of 2006. There was no going back to Saban at that point. No AD in the country would have made that move

Saban was far from a generational coach at the time he left the dolphins

1. Woodward (tie)
1. Broadead (tie)
3. Skip
5. Alleva
5. Dean

Broadhead transformed the athletic department into a business model long before most universities were doing so. Alleva and Dean almost ran the athletic department into the ground.

Saw Joe Dean run over media equipment by old Alex Box once. He kept going and yelled out of car window, “Send me the bill!”

Was that right before he drove his car into the University Lakes?

You are crazy if you don’t give credit to Woodward for cleaning up Alleva’s mess. Literally every sport is better off now and he brings a respectable force when representing LSU for the SEC.

Trust me when I say this from first hand knowledge, You had more to do with hiring Nick Saban than Joe Dean because you, presumably paid for at least one ticket to an LSU event during that timeframe.

Love him or hate him, Mark Emmerit had already removed Dean from the hiring process before a decision on Saban was made.

As for Dean, he took a claw hammer to LSU athletics in the name of budget balancing, but old Joe came out just fine financially while he left LSU. In tatters

1. Joe Dean

During his tenure, Dean oversaw arguably the greatest athletic era in school history.

At the time of his retirement, the 27 national championships under Dean's guidance were an SEC record.
