Except TECHNICALLY he hired Saban.
Lol dean never would have interviewed Saban on his own. Then the jerk wanted to low ball Saban and Mark basically told him to kick rocks I got this

I didn’t know it was possible to be any worse than Alleva

Not a AD but Mark Emmert. He alone is responsible for Tiger football resurgence!

At the time of his retirement, the 27 national championships under Dean's guidance were an SEC record.
Vast majority from Pat Henry, a Broadhead hire.
Broadhead and Woody were/are the only legit ADs we’ve had.
Bertman was atrocious, being handed 2 Ferraris with his baseball and Saban’s football. He was as bad an AD as great he was a coach. When Manieri is your crowning achievement hire, it’s an atrocious legacy.

He hired 2 coaches that won titles. He had misses but this is way overboard.

It took a colossal failure in Smoke for Bertman to hire Manieri when Skip could’ve hired anyone to replace him.
Skip evaluating Miles over Jimbo is equally horrible.

And Both have a National Title but Miles played for 2

Smoke sucked. Smoke also won 66% of his games and 60% of SEC games and made Omaha twice. The problem was that it tailed off real fast. The “colossal failure” of Smoke Laval at LSU is largely false revisionist history.

Oh come the frick on
I’m sure this board would have fully been behind promoting a 39 year old first time HC. Sure pal.

I’d put Broadhead above Joe Dean and maybe even pretty close to Bertman. He had the AD humming with some pretty darned good hires, the best of which was Skip.

I’ve watched this thread and thought it would go different initially.
I fricking hate Alleva, but props to tRant recognizing Joe Dean was a terrible AD. Nothing personal about the man, but he set LSU back a decade or so in athletics.

Broadhead was much better than generally given credit for. He was a PR nightmare and butted head with the board on a regular basis. He was generally right, but he needed to communicate better with the board so that they understood the vision. The bad relationship caused lots of other problems and made him not as effective as he should have been
And yet he hired the greatest coach in LSU history and a Naismith HOF WBB coach AND A TRACK COACH THAT REBUILt THE PROGRAM and won a Natty in Seemes.
He also paved the way for TAF. fricking kids on here
Broadhead was the best AD in LSU history from program impact.

Don’t forget Joe Dean got us sued for Title IX and sexual harassment when he said, in front of female athletes “We should add soccer as our next sport because the girls look good in those shorts and there are less lesbians than softball!”

Woodward has done as much to hurt lsu athletics as any AD I’ve seen.
Huge spender, went all out to make the athletic department a political entity covering to every whack job he could.
Time will tell if he can pull back out of the mess he’s help create.
