This was a great game during Saban’s first year vs Miss St when they were good under Jackie Sherrill. We were down 31-17 going into the 4th quarter and we win in overtime. I love watching old LSU games and I could never find highlights of this game over the years and somebody made it on YouTube for those who are interested.

Saban told the gridiron club before the game that we would run to their bubbles. Bubbles being the running lanes created by Joe Lee Dunn’s exotic blitz scheme. And that’s exactly what we did, especially in the 4th quarter. They couldn’t stop us.

I was there and it was a great game. One significant play that wasn’t shown was the kickoff return after MSU went up 31-17. We fumbled and several maroon jerseys jumped on it. We had a great special team player (#49 Ryan ????) who dove into the pile and somehow came out with the ball. He was as quoted post game something like ‘I fought to get my hands on the ball and violently head-butted until he let go.’

They had all the momentum and if they had recovered that fumble we probably would have been down by 21 or at least 17. Instead we mounted a great come back.

HA!! The 3:20 mark!! Saban ripping off his headset, “G— D—-it!!!!!!!!!”

You could hear it clear as day.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen a full clip of that game online in awhile. I was a sophomore that year. As said by someone else, that was a fun year. Also a very tough year. My father died in a sudden car accident two days before the Tennessee game. I didn't go. I watched and cried in TV and after the crowd cleared out went to our seats in the southeast lower bowl and passed out

Total fumble on that first TD. But we've had our share of bad calls.

That was actually a great game.

2000 was such a fun season after the let downs of 98 and 99. It helped this was my junior year in college.

Great game and gets overlooked as one of the loudest in TS history.
History also forgets that if replay had been in place LSU loses in regulation. Toefield fumbled on the first TD before he crossed the goal and the one in OT.

Wow, a walk down memory lane.

Say what you will about Dinardo but he recruited great skilled players. Booty could throw laser beams. The stable of RBs were some hard nosed baws.

Great game

The stadium was buzzing that night. Just a different atmosphere back then that I don't think you can recreate.

Booty had an absolute rifle for an arm. I'll give him that.

Two things I hope Coach Kelly brings back:

Those exact uniforms and those end zones. Something like this.

Was my oldest child's first game in TS at 7 years old. We sat in the south end zone in some pretty good seats. Fond memory for me as a fan and a parent.

Was my first time on the sidelines as a “guest” of LSU training staff - on MSU side of the field.

Towards the end of the game - and in OT, I’ve NEVER heard anything that loud.
The crowd was so loud, my host couldn’t hear me yelling 6” from his ear. Finally gave up. When we won? Holy crap…

Surreal.

That was my freshman year at LSU. Beating them, Bama and UT was huge for the program.
