OT Take on LBJ

What is the OT’s take on Lyndon Baines Johnson? Was he a good President in your opinion? Apparently he was a master politician from his days in the Senate, but did that translate into success as the President?
I think a lot of us have heard the darker things about LBJ, from his shady connections and backroom deals to the theory that he was involved in JFK’s assassination (which my grandfather firmly believed in). Last but not least, his decision to pour American troops into Vietnam. How does that affect his overall legacy?

His obsession with railroading what was at the time the largest unfunded mandate in U.S. history - The Great Society - through Congress is enough to qualify him as one of the worst Presidents in history.

No, he wasn’t a good President. His handling of Vietnam was poor and The Great Society really helped put into place the modern welfare state.

I’ve wondered if that quote that’s attributed to him about having black people “voting for Democrats for 200 years” is actually his quote. I’d like to know the context behind it.
I’m not saying it’s not true but we obviously didn’t learn that in History class. I’ve also never bothered to research it but half the shite quoted on the internet are poached quotes or fragmented quotes from a larger conversation. Maybe I should finally look it up because if this was his plan, it worked beautifully. He must have been evil more so than a horrible President. He was definitely effective.
