Prayers to those families. Stay safe out there, y’all.

Authorities shut down boating traffic on False River during a busy pre-summer weekend after a head-on collision between a bass boat and a 20-foot vessel left one person dead and another missing, the Point Coupee Sheriff's Office said.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said rescue crews were still searching midday Saturday for the operator of the bass boat, which collided with the 20-foot vessel near the unincorporated Dupont area shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Rescuers found the body of the vessels operator, 31-year-old Fordoche resident Shea Mouton, in the river shortly after the collision.

Curious,
Is this river pronounced "false" as in opposite of true?
Or some weird French way like "Fah SAY"?

That is awful. As I have gotten older boating at night just isn't worth it anymore. Too much can happen that you just can't see until it is too late.

Out here right now on the dock, rivers still closed. Saw a helicopter running the banks a few hours ago but mostly search boats now

I wonder whatever became of that case?

Im not saying this was the case, but I have been to false river a few times and I am surprised there are not more accidents. Of course when I went it was a 4th of july weekend and there are a lot more people on the water, but some people get on the water and they become completely unaware.

Don't know who was at fault but in my experience bass boats drive way too fast. Like little speedboats that are super low to the water

There should be much more stringent rules to owning or operating a boat. I've seen far too many complete retards driving up and down the Diversion and Tickfaw who have no idea what they're doing whatsoever.

Honestly I'm surprised there aren't multiple fatal accidents on Louisiana waterways every weekend.

Kind of strange reporting there. It's possible the bass boat is as long or longer than the vessel, whatever that is.

Being on the water at night is a whole different animal. Best not to do it public waterways in most locations.

Dang, and heading into one of the busiest boating weekends of the year.

We could be in the water here in Lake Lanier in 10-15 minutes, but we NEVER go there. It is freaking insane.
-sheer number of boats
-massive amounts of alcohol consumed
-huge number of rental boats piloted by morons
-Go fast boats piloted by idiots not paying attention to their surroundings
-massive massive ocean-worthy vessels on a lake creating huge wakes
And so on.

A friend of ours lost their kid in an inner tubing accident, they got run over by an a-hole that wasn't paying attention. It is impossible to not think about it.

I will gladly drive to find some nice, calm water. We keep our dang boat 3 hours away.

Stay safe, folks.
