If you are too stupid to know that Orange County is republican, stay in Texas and make half. Also your story is probably fake.

I would move to California in a second.
Probably will when I retire

beaches, mountains, deserts, forests
legal weed
perfect weather year round
small towns, vineyards, national parks, world class cities and international airports

there’s a reason there’s a California dream

The kids will come around, they just have a hard time leaving their friends. But most of the time they adapt well to new surroundings. The exception may be if you have teenagers who are already in high school.

I’m going through the same thing right now, but not to California, I’d never move there.

Lot of Republicans in California. The mayor or Anaheim is Republican. Low crime, great weather. 16 murders last year and lower crime than the average for the entire state. Anaheim is better than many places in Louisiana.

For twice the money are you considering taxes in the equation and still double the money? You are going from 0% state income tax to likely 9.3% income tax.

Do you like kale?

Do you like bars with one shitty beer but 1,000 different $25 cocktails?

Do you like traffic?

Do you like being far, far away from people who give even one iota about college sports?

Do people really care this much about politics? I understand the secondary implications like taxes and whatnot.

If double the salary is 75k to 150k, I probably wouldn’t move. If 200k to 400k, I probably would move.

Haven’t read thru the thread, but im guessing i might be the only one who doesnt think it’s a bad idea…. Im a Registered Independent (#humblebrag) so i have no dog in the fight- but politically speaking, Anaheim is in Orange County which at one point was THE most republican county in these United States.. and is still pretty much ruby red.. California gets a bad rap here but it’s a beautiful state with loads of stuff to do.. i lived in SoCal myself and the only reason i left is it was too far from family in La for me at the time… Also, TX doesnt have state tax but they MORE than make up for it with exorbitant property taxes.. Good luck .

If you base your entire move on what a random internet board says, then you get what you deserve.

Also if you move to California, you get what you deserve.

Did a project in Anaheim with Boeing engineers some years ago, they were all conservative and good dudes. I liked Anaheim, the area we stayed in was clean, good restaurants, no crime and manageable traffic.

If it's an upward move leading to bigger and better things there or elsewhere in your company, go for it. Housing cost is obviously the biggest drawback and 2x your present salary won't equalize to CA home costs and taxes vs TX.

John Wayne's statue at the airport is awesome, blew me away when I first saw it. Very cool.
